Angola Tourism has big plans with African Tourism Board

November 19, 2019 by PressEditor

It was all smiles when African Tourism Board (ATB) Chairperson met with representatives from the Angolan Ministry of Tourism, Angolan Tourism Board, and the President of Angolan Woman in Business & Tourism prior to the official launch of AWIBT.

Both the Ministry of Tourism and the Angolan Tourism Board have agreed to work closely with ATB, as the Chair Mr. Chuthbert Ncube  took time to congratulate the Angolan Women in Business & Tourism Cooperative as they were registered as an Affiliate Member and its President Angelina was appointed as the Ambassador for Angola Martha Diamantino, this will see a more direct and effective approach in branding, Marketing, and promoting Angola as a Tourist destination.

ATB has been invited as a strategical partner for the event.

Bilateral discussions and engagements were agreed upon by both parties to work together in effecting the sustainable socio-economic development projects and programs in the Region.

Angola’s goal to shift and diversify the economy to give tourism an important role as a key job creator for its more than 30 million people, and to put Angola on the global map through tourism activities.

African Tourism Board  Chairperson Cuthbert Ncube spoke emotionally on the African Communities Development through Sustainable Tourism Actions and Projects. The Pre-Launch of Angola Women in Business & Tourism Cooperatives was graced by the presence of Dr. Angela Braganca from the Ministry of State Secretary of Culture and Tourism and the special envoy from the Department of National Da Cultura Dr Euclides Da Lamba and the Chief Executive Officer of Angola Tourism Board Dr Simao Pedro. The ATB Chair expressed his deepest appreciation to the AWIBT-C at large for a great initiative by bringing the attention of the world to a path-breaking Organisation that will transform Angola and the region through sustainable investment in support to Woman economic empowerment. There is an African proven which says “Educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a Women you educate a Nation.” It is on this bases that ATB is proud to be part of this initiative, an Organisation of powerful and wise Women who have the goal of developing African Communities through actions and projects. “We can safely say Angola as a Nation is in good hands as Women are standing up to take their respective positions within the Business sector which has been dominated by their male counterparts for so long”, Cuthbert said. Mr Cuthbert Ncube pointed out the slow growth of Tourism in the continent, saying  Africa is home to 15% of the world’s population but only hosts about 3% of the world’s tourists. For African Tourism to be sustainable it must be open to both regional and international tourists. Cuthbert said: “It is our hope as ATB that policies, legislations, and regulations promoted, facilitate the sustainable consumption and productions of the Tourism sector across the continent.” The event was highlighted when the Chair presented the Organisation with their African Tourism Board Affiliate Membership Certificate that was handed over through the Department of Tourism and the Department of Culture. The Angolan Women in Business & Tourism  President Ms. Angelina Martha Diamantino received her Ambassadorial Certificate as she was appointed by the Executive Board to represent ATB in Angola.

Currently, the country is dependent on mining and oil and seen as closed for travelers. This may now change.

Angola has the potential to be one of Africa’s dazzling highlights. Lurking within its wild borders lies the continent’s second-largest waterfall, scattered remnants of Portuguese colonial history, a handful of emerging national parks, beaches galore and a diverse and unbelievably stoic cross-section of people.Angola is a Southern African nation whose varied terrain encompasses tropical Atlantic beaches, a labyrinthine system of rivers and Sub-Saharan desert that extends across the border into Namibia. The country’s colonial history is reflected in its Portuguese-influenced cuisine and its landmarks including Fortaleza de São Miguel, a fortress built by the Portuguese in 1576 to defend the capital, Luanda.

The sooner the government tackles the country’s political issues, the quicker it can emerge from its protracted slumber and show the world what’s it’s been missing.

ATB Chair Cuthbert pointed this out in his powerful speech and focused on the important role women play in this process.

Dr. Taleb Rifai has a message for Africa

August 13, 2019 by PressEditor

Former UNWTO Secretary-General Dr. Taleb Rifai today issued this statement when joining the African Tourism Board as their Patron.

Travel & Tourism Today is a powerful economic sector affecting and changing the lives of Billions of people around the world , but , beyond the numbers and the economic benefits of Generating $ 3.4 billion of global spending every DAY , Creating 1/10 jobs all over the world , and Representing 10.4 % of world GDP , Travell and Tourism, is today a major contributor to much more significant change and transformation that slowly and gradually is bringing us together, as humans, like never before. We and Africa are ONE in today’s world. Travel has connected us back to where it all started.

WE ALL CAME OUT OF AFRICA .

In today’s world, I would like to believe that, the transformative power of Travel and Tourism, When well managed and utilized, is a cornerstone in establishing world peace and in turn a better world, for people and planet,
Protecting our cultural and natural heritage, Empowering local communities. Breaking down stereotypes enabling us to experience, enjoy and celebrate the beauty of our rich cultural diversity,

These are indeed some of tourism’s contributions to MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

Just imagine what that means to Africa.
Mark Twain summed it up pretty well when he said
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”

Travel, my friends, opens minds, open eyes, and open hearts. We became better people when we travel

That is why it’s a great honor for me to have joined ATB . It’s my, our opportunity to pay back to Africa, our motherland, the birthplace of mankind, a long-standing debt that we all owe

Come join us let us make Africa ONE again and, be ONE with Africa

African Tourism Board to become the Voice for Africa: Interview on Good Morning Seychelles

June 11, 2019 by PressEditor

Talking Tourism, the African Tourism Board was the talking points on the Seychelles Television “Good Morning Seychelles’ (Bonzour Sesel) program with Barbara Hoareau.

The very popular and loved “Good Morning Seychelles” (Bonzour Sesel) television program hosted by Barbara Hoareau of SBC Seychelles recently welcomed Alain St.Ange, the President of the African Tourism Board (ATB) to discuss tourism in Africa and how the ATB could be that very catalyst to bring about the development of Brand Africa.

Alain St.Ange who was elected earlier this year as the President of the African Tourism Board on the sidelines of the World Travel Market Africa in Cape Town explained to Seychelles that the ATB was being managed from Pretoria in South Africa where the CEO and Vice President were based. The President of the African Tourism Board went on to speak about the latest country Uganda that became a member as he explained that the ATB would work with the new CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board to get out to the world the key USPs of Uganda and to support the relaunching of the Uganda Airlines.

Mr. St.Ange who was asked about whether the successes of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands could be replicated for Africa said that visibility for the continent and its member States would be a priority. “We shall work and will become the voice to dispel the negatives and bring out the successes and attractions,” he said as he deplored the fact that in the Indian Ocean Islands Seychelles and Mauritius were still not on board even though many in the private sector trade were already working with the ATB.

Alain St.Ange was the founding President of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands and was the only one to have had his mandate extended for a consecutive two-term. He is now the founding president of the Africa Tourism Board.  St.Ange explained on air that when a disaster strikes the African Continent with its 54 States is affected and that this needed to change. “We shall be communicating as necessary and become that needed voice for Africa,” he said.

Friendliest Travel Country on Earth Joins African Tourism Board

June 3, 2019 by PressEditor

Uganda is the latest country joining the African Tourism Board as a member. For Ugandans welcoming all nationalities is an intrinsic part of the culture, and residents are quick to offer smiles to newcomers.  In 2017 BBC reported Uganda has been described as the friendliest country globally following a survey conducted among expatriates. Together with breathtaking landscapes, wildlife, to high-end restaurants and bars, hotels, and lodges to year-round summer, this country is a perfect travel and tourism destination.

“It is an honour and delight for Tourism Uganda to join the Africa Tourism Board. We are optimistic that the board will steer responsible development of travel and tourism to the African region, play a vital role in harnessing opportunities for the continent and position it as a premier destination for visitors around the world,” said Lilly Ajarova, UTB Chief Executive Officer

“As I say welcome Uganda, I must take this opportunity to salute their tenacity and sincerity for tourism. We undertake as the Africa Tourism Board to be by their side at this critical point in the re-development of Uganda Airline which coincides with the Tourism Board’s drive in bringing to the world the key USBs of Uganda. We are honored to have Uganda as a Member” Alain St.Ange, President Africa Tourism Board added.

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa whose diverse landscape encompasses the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and immense Lake Victoria. Its abundant wildlife includes chimpanzees as well as rare birds. Remote Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a renowned mountain gorilla sanctuary. Murchison Falls National Park in the northwest is known for its 43m-tall waterfall and wildlife such as hippos.

There is a wide range of ethnic groups in Uganda with many different languages spoken, namely Luganda English, Bantu, Swahili, Nilotic, and Lumasaba. Christians make up 85.2% of Uganda’s population, there are a certain amount of Sikhs and Hindus, and 12% are Muslims.

“In the name of the African Tourism Board, please accept our warmest congratulations as a result of this important development which will have a major impact for both the Israeli and Rwanda tourism industry, Israel is a nation with booming outbound and incoming tourism figures. The Israelis are excited to explore new amazing travel destinations whereas Israel has such a wide variety of tourism products to offer to the African travelers. The importance of this new series of flights is far beyond the scope of Rwanda only and will be felt by the whole region. We salute Rwandair for this decision and will be at your disposal for creating the brand awareness of Rwanda in Israel.”

Rwandair will start operating direct flights connecting Kigali in Rwanda with Tel Aviv, Israel starting on June 26, 2019.
