Trinidad and Tobago to host Caribbean’s biggest arts festival

The Caribbean’s largest art and cultural festival will be hosted in Trinidad and Tobago from August 16th to 25th.  The Caribbean Festival of the Arts (CARIFESTA) is in its fourteenth year and has spanned over two decades as the responsibility for staging of the festival passed to different islands within the region.

In years gone by, CARIFESTA has been a catalyst for not only strengthening regional integration among Caribbean countries, artisans and cultural practitioners.  This wide ranging festival has therefore been a launching pad for the Caribbean to take centre-stage, by bringing the essence of what makes the islands culturally rich to the world.

In 2019, the theme of the festival is “Connect, Share, Invest”, and this underscores the overarching goal of the Caribbean as a whole, which is regional integration.  As hosts this year, Trinidad and Tobago will further confirm its status as a Mecca in the Caribbean’s creative space as the dual islands have been dubbed as the Cultural Capital of the region.  The islands are home to Carnival, “the greatest show on earth”, and there is much excitement as the destination gets to showcase and market the culture of Trinidad and Tobago to the Caribbean region and the rest of the world through CARIFESTA XIV.

Thus far, 21 countries have registered for CARIFESTA XIV as there is building excitement about the potential for their culture to be shared in what is surely a fertile creative space.  If you plan to come to CARIFESTA XIV in Trinidad and Tobago look out for a creative feast in the expressions of Music, Dance, Theatre, Film, Visual Arts, Literary Arts, Culinary Arts, Fashion, Folklore and Craft.  Over the span of ten (10) days, you can immerse yourself in Trinidad and Tobago and have an Artistic and Cultural experience that is out of this world.
