HYATT WINS PRAISE FOR COMMITTING TO A WORLDWIDE 100% CAGE-FREE EGG POLICY

LEADING INTERNATIONAL HOTEL CHAIN HYATT WINS PRAISE FOR COMMITTING TO A WORLDWIDE 100% CAGE-FREE EGG POLICY
Chicago — Hyatt Hotels, one of the world’s largest hotel chains, has committed to using only cage-free eggs in the dining operations for its over 750 hotels across the globe. Animal protection non-profit Lever Foundation, which worked with Hyatt to enact the policy, praised the company for its commitment.
“We applaud Hyatt’s leadership on this important animal welfare issue,” said Katherine Ma, Program Manager for Lever Foundation. “Hyatt has now joined other leading hotel brands—including Marriott, Wyndham and Accor—that have also committed to using only cage-free eggs throughout their global supply chain.”
Hyatt had previously pledged to using only cage-free eggs in North America and Europe. The new commitment, which will see cage-free eggs phased in worldwide by 2025, was announced on Hyatt’s global website at: https://about.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-thrive/responsible-sourcing.html .
Leading international animal welfare organizations—including Compassion in World Farming, Humane Society International, and World Animal Protection—encourage companies to end their use of eggs from cruel “battery cage” egg farms. The European Food Safety Authority has found that caged egg farms also have a dramatically higher risk of contamination from certain Salmonella strains.
Lever Foundation is a U.S.-Asian animal protection non-profit working in the United States and the greater China region.
