Visiting Pranburi, Hua Hin’s little sister city.

June 21, 2020 by Forimmediaterelease

Tourism Authority of Thailand news first on FIR:

Visiting Pranburi, Hua Hin’s little sister city.

Known for its elegant resorts, seafood, and laid back vibe, Hua Hin has long-since been one of Thailand’s favorite beach towns. It’s a quick 3-3.5 hour drive south from Bangkok, and there is a range of affordable options available for getting there. Those options include shared vans and private taxi services departing daily from various areas of the city.

Hua Hin is surrounded by sweeping beachfront views as well as a couple of palaces, such as Mrigadayavan Palace and Klai Kangwon Palace – the latter of which was the primary summer residence of King Rama IX, situated right in the heart of Hua Hin.

Though Hua Hin is known to have millions of tourists pass through every year, what many visitors may not know is that just 15 minutes south is a smaller, more quaint town called Pranburi, which is in the same province of Prachuap Khiri Khan. The short drive is well worth making for a chill day (or weekend) at the beach, and here’s why:

Pranburi which many local people refer to simply as ‘Pran’ is a much less crowded and —  if you can imagine it — a more relaxed version of Hua Hin. There are just a few local restaurants and coffee shops, and not a single shopping mall in sight. However, there are a variety of activities that make it a lovely place to visit.

But first, what’s that smell?

Though Pranburi is very charming, you may occasionally notice an uncharacteristically strong smell of fish in the air. That is because ‘Muek Dad Deaw’ or sun-dried squid, is a vital commodity in Pranburi.

Many locals have setup Muek Dad Deaw businesses and supply these products from Pranburi to the thriving seafood snack industry, which exists all over Thailand.

So, if the sea breeze slows down for a moment or two, you may get a strong whiff of the squid as it’s drying out and that is because, in the northernmost part of Pranburi, there are fishermen drying out their products before they sell them.

The upside to this is that you can find vendors selling the product all over Pranburi. It’s a snack that many people enjoy, so don’t let the smell deter you- the taste is incredible and the price, considering that you can buy it directly from the source, is more than fair.

Now, onto the beach.

There are a few main things about the beach in Pranburi that draw many people to it.

  • Strolling on foot, bicycling, and skating.

After you’ve arrived in Pranburi, nearly everything you are able to enjoy is situated within a 5-15 minute walk from the beach.

Pranburi Beach

There is one big road (and accompanying boardwalk) that runs alongside the beach, appropriately called ‘Beach Road’. This road was built to accommodate bicycles and — believe it or not — skateboards and scooters, too. In fact, there is even a public skatepark on the boardwalk, right next to the sea.

Skatepark next to the beach, located on Beach Road in Pranburi.

Riding down the boardwalk in a cruiser is one of the best ways to experience the beach in Pranburi.

  • Kiteboarding

From the early morning until the sunset, the beach in Pranburi is often filled with people kiteboarding. The prevalence of this hobby is also reflected in the shops open alongside the beach, as there are many places that offer equipment rental as well as kiteboarding instruction and hands-on lessons.

Editorial note: If you want to put this video, you can. I cut the sound out of it because of wind. You can also take a still image from this video if that’s easier.

  • Coconut Orchards

Parts of the beachfront in Pranburi consist of privately-owned coconut farms, also called coconut orchards or groves. These farms don’t have any animals, but they do have some of the most beautiful palm trees you can find in this region.

  • Local coffee shops and Thai restaurants

There is no shortage of good coffee and food options just a few meters from the beach in Pranburi.

One such place that has a really nice vibe, plus delicious desserts and beverage, is Chabar Coffee @Paknumpran. This homey cafe has a delectable selection of cheesecake and crepe cakes to compliment an ice-cold drink after a walk up from the beach.

  • Dogwalking

There are cute dogs all over the beach in Pranburi. Everywhere you look, you’ll likely see at least 2-3 of them playing sports, swimming, or just laying around soaking up some sun. The beach in Pranburi has a fairly social environment, so don’t be alarmed if you’re approached by some furry friends taking a stroll. Most importantly: feel free to bring your own dogs to this beach, they are most definitely welcome!

Where to stay?

The roads in and out of Pranburi have been recently built or renovated, which has made the town more easily-accessible.

This has resulted in some recent construction of accommodation, all of which has been designed to integrate seamlessly into the look and feel of Pranburi. So, you won’t see a skyline of large buildings and sprawling concrete hotel complexes. Rather, the majority of accommodation is homestay-style, such as Pranberry Bed and Breakfast.

You can browse the various accommodations available in Pranburi through the usual booking sites such as Hotels.com and Agoda.

And one last thing:

Pranburi is home at least one “Very Good Restaurant”, which we can vouch for- it is, in fact, very good!

Centara and Hua Hin Pearl Sign HMA for Cha Am Resort

February 28, 2020 by PressEditor

Centara Hotels & Resorts, Thailand’s leading hotel operator, and Hua Hin Pearl Resort Company Limited, announced the signing of a Hotel Management Agreement (HMA) for Centra by Centara Cha Am

Beach Resort Hua Hin. Senior executives from the two companies officially executed the agreement at a signing ceremony held yesterday at Centara’s flagship Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld.

Hua Hin Pearl, the owner of the property which is owned by a major shareholder of KTIS Group, a leading Thailand-based sugar company, acquired the former Beach Garden Hotel and carried out a complete floor-to-ceiling, property-wide renovation.

“We are delighted to be working with Hua Hin Pearl on the first Centara property in Cha Am,” said Thirayuth Chirathivat, Centara’s CEO. “They have tremendous experience in the market and have done a superb job on the property’s renovation and upgrading.”

“I am pleased to be working with the Centara team on the launch and long-term management of the resort,” added Parphan Siriviriyakul,Chairman of Executive Committee Hua Hin Pearl “The Centara brand gives a project tremendous visibility and credibility, and I am confident that the management team’s experience will drive the future success of the resort.”

Centra by Centara Cha Am Beach Resort Hua Hin is an elegant 190-key midscale hotel located right on the Cha Am beachfront along the shores of the Gulf of Thailand. The renovation comprised a significant upgrade to all accommodation and facilities, including the creation of pool access units, development of a new restaurant and beach bar venue, and upgraded swimming pool facilities.

In addition to the newly built restaurant and beach bar, the resort’s dining options include an all-day dining venue. Extensive recreational facilities feature two swimming pools with separated children’s pool, a Kids’ Club which provides supervised games and activities for children and teens, as well as a full-service spa – Cense by Spa Cenvaree and fitness centre. The resort is also equipped with three meeting rooms with a total capacity of 300.

The coastal community of Cha Am is located within a few hours’ drive of Bangkok and about 30 minutes by car from Hua Hin, home to the iconic Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin. Hua Hin was Thailand’s first beach destination, and the area has retained its authentic Thai ambiance, attracting both Thai and international visitors.

Hua Hin has enjoyed consistent growth in recent years, and the recent expansion of its airport led to the 2018 launch of the first scheduled commercial service, which offers flights to and from Kuala Lumpur 3 days a week. The increased air links, as well as the area’s extensive recreational attractions, are expected to sustain Hua Hin’s upward growth trend over the long term. Centra by Centara Cha Am Beach Resort Hua Hin is scheduled to open in April 2020.

Hua Hin Municipality, TAT & Hotel Operators Team Up for Trust-building Travellers Initiative

February 12, 2020 by PressEditor

The Municipality of Hua Hin, together with public and private sector partners, are gearing up for an initiative designed to strengthen the trust and confidence of Hua Hin visitors.

Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wuttikul (pictured, centre) is committed to ensuring the city of Hua Hin remains a preferred destination for travellers of all ages, and is collaborating with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Prachuap Khiri Khan office, the Hua Hin/Cha-am Tourism Association, and Hua Hin hotel operators to organise events and activities at popular Hua Hin attractions throughout February and March. Aimed at boosting the image of this beautiful resort town, the initiative will also raise awareness and encourage tourism-related businesses to generate future inbound travel that contributes to the long-term success of the destination, helping reduce the negative impact of tourism.

One of the highlights of February’s activities in February is sure to see visitors and locals enjoying Latin music and dancing. Set for Saturday, 15 February 2020, “Zumba Dance on the Beach”, a collaboration with Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin, will offer a festive and dynamic alternative for getting fit and having some fun at the same time. This free-of-charge event features some of the finest Zumba instructors from Bangkok and Hua Hin, who will passionately guide you through easy-to-master moves and bring out your inner Shakira or Ricky Martin. Live bands, mini-concerts, and many fun and inspiring activities open to the whole family awaits, providing a whole new perspective on world-famous Hua Hin Beach.

One week later, The Yoga Festival 2020 presents a zen-like opportunity for the young and the young at heart, experienced yoga fans and beginners alike, to get into the flow of yoga. In partnership with Shakti Yoga, the festival runs from 21–23 February 2020 along the beachfront strip of land at Soi Hua Hin 75/1.

Participants can experience yoga and fresh air on the beach, with the waves gently humming a mantra to energise you all weekend. Yoga teachers and experienced practitioners will also join hands for some extra lively and enthusiastic yoga classes scheduled throughout the weekend — all free-of-charge to everyone who joins.

Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wuttikul summed up what makes Hua Hin truly special: “Hua Hin offers a mix of modern town vibes and a traditional Thai way of life. It is a beach resort perfect for families and tourists of all ages. It is also a preferred beach resort destination among the country’s royalty and elite, from the past to present. The launch of new events and activities provides Hua Hin tourism with an integral marketing tool for the current situation to promote the destination among both local Thai and international tourists.”

Whether you’re a local, new in town, or are just passing through, you’ll find something to enjoy at your leisure among the wide variety of activities and events happening all February and March – each guaranteed to create a Hua Hin experience second to none.

January 28, 2020 by PressEditor

Marking the 8th consecutive year of great success since 2012, Centara Grand Hua Hin’s regarded Annual Scholarship Ceremony recently shared great pleasure with Hua Hin community, granting a combined Baht 150,000 worth of scholarships and gifts to underprivileged children in remote area.

The afternoon of Friday, January 17, 2020 saw another happy moment as Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin successfully organised its Annual Scholarship Ceremony 2020 at the hotel’s beautiful Colonial Hall, marking the 8th year of great support to Hua Hin’s local community.

Gifts of Happiness from Centara Grand Hua Hin for Better Future of Underprivileged Children

Led by David Martens, General Manager & Corporate Director of Operations Hua Hin, Krabi, Samui & Vietnam, the event also welcomed Sirapan Kamolpramote, adviser to the Mayor of Hua Hin, Soraya Homchuen, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (Prachuap Khirikhan Office) and Wassana Srikanchana, President of the Cha-Am Hua Hin Tourism Business Association, who joined the ceremony to congratulate the students, personally presenting each child with scholarships and gifts they wished for, such as bikes, radio, mobile phones, sport equipment as well as school uniforms.

From these humble beginnings, Centara Grand Hua Hin took the initiative even further to support the development of thinking skills and encourage a love of reading in students. By partnering with Jamsai Publishing Thailand, the hotel also sponsored 500 brand new books to school libraries, broadening the range of resources to which they can refer students.

Asked about the success of the event, David Martens shared:

“My team and I are very glad to see another successful year that Centara Grand Hua Hin is able take part in supporting the local community and improve early childhood education in Hua Hin. This year, we have significantly raised the total amount of donation to over Baht 150,000, to the total number of 50 students from 4 schools. Since 2012, the hotel has raised over Baht 650,000 and continuously awarded over 400 scholarships. Of course, this success is made possible thanks to the supports from Hua Hin Municipality, TAT, and other private sectors. I do hope that this will set a new standard of how a business supports and motivates for better community engagement.”

First opened its doors to welcome guests in the early 1920s, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin is regarded as one of the grand hotels of the East, with a wide expanse of gardens perfect for strolling and enjoying the sea breezes. With its perfect location in the town centre ideal for exploring and shopping, the hotel is a prime destination for couples and families.

Hua Hin municipality and Centara join forces to boost Hua Hin’s environmental sustainability efforts

August 7, 2019 by PressEditor

As part of its commitment to Hua Hin’s environmental sustainability and development, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin recently welcomed Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wuthikul to take part in its latest initiative, POP, aimed at promoting environmental awareness in Hua Hin.

Centara Hotels & Resorts marked this year’s 2019 World Environment Day with a sculpted sea creature-cum-trash-bin named POP, short for “Plastic Only, Please”, installed along the iconic resort’s beachfront on 1st June to raise awareness of the scourge of plastic waste. Each time the plastic-hungry sea creature fills up with collected plastic trash, the hotel’s waste management team removes POP to empty and weigh the contents and prepare the trash for sorting and delivery to local recycling facilities.

Thanks to the amazing results achieved during the 50-day visit of this larger-than-life, fish-shaped trash can, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin Director of Quality Assurance, Duenphen Pengkasem, led the effort to extend the initiative and keep the POP display. This extension was successfully achieved owing to great support from Mayor Nopporn and his Hua Hin Municipality Office team, which has been actively promoting environmental awareness in the community and supporting greater responsibility and care for the environment of this resort town.

Rather than creating more plastic garbage that pollutes the environment and adds to the burden of nearby landfills, these plastic-eating creatures are providing a first-line waste management filter, diverting reusable plastic materials to be recycled into new products instead of going straight to the garbage.

Eliminating single-use plastic items is a key priority of the 2019 Centara Earth Care programme, a company-wide initiative aimed at encouraging hotel guests and tourists to be proactive about energy saving and sustainable environmental tourism.

Centara’s sustainability plan covers five types of single-use plastic items, including drinking straws, laundry bags, take-away food containers, fitness centre and poolside plastic bottles, and plastic guest room amenities. They are being replaced with items made from materials designed to minimise environmental impact. The single-use plastic straws being eliminated take up to 200 years to decompose; the new bio-straws replacing them decompose within six months.

May 2, 2019 by PressEditor

Centara Hotels & Resorts, Thailand’s leading hotel operator, has revealed that a record number of competitors from around the world will compete at this year’s Centara World Masters Golf Championship, which returns to Hua Hin this summer.

This acclaimed annual tournament will be hosted from 9th to 15th June 2019, gathering more than 500 amateur golfers from approximately 50 countries to this famous seaside town on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand. Competitors will come from many of Thailand’s most important visitor source markets, including the UK, Australia, China, Singapore and Hong Kong, providing a major boost to the tourism economy.

Guests will be hosted at Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin, the stunning beachfront heritage resort which dates from 1927 and is one of the country’s most famous and historic hotels.

“Centara is a proud supporter of golfers around the world. The global golf tourism sector is booming and Thailand is a major part of its success. 2019 will mark the sixth consecutive edition of the Centara World Masters, and this year event will be bigger and better than ever, with a full week-long schedule of tournaments, dinners, social events and day tours.

Players will enjoy one round each at four of Hua Hin’s leading courses: Springfield Royal Country Club, which was designed by Jack Nicklaus; Black Mountain Golf Club, which was named as one of the “100 Best Courses in the World” by Golf Digest magazine; Banyan Golf Club, which Asian Golf Monthly selected as its “Best New Course in Asia Pacific”; and Lake View Resort & Golf Club, an Asian Tour venue.

With such an impressive selection of courses, it is little wonder that Hua Hin was named as the “Golf Destination of the Year” for Asia in 2019 by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).

After each day’s play, all golfers will gather back at Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin to celebrate the day’s winners with “19th Hole” festivities, including exquisite Thai cuisine and refreshing beverages.
