May 26, 2021 by PressEditor

The Anguilla Tourist Board is pleased to announce that Silver Airways will commence service from San Juan to Anguilla on Friday, June 2, 2021.

The summer flights will operate twice weekly between the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport in Anguilla through August 6, 2021. Silver Airways is the parent company of Seaborne Airlines. Seaborne has operated in Anguilla for many years.

“I am proud to have been a part of the initial negotiations with Seaborne Airlines in 2014 that culminated in regular service to Anguilla. We are delighted to welcome Silver Airways to Anguilla after this lengthy hiatus caused by the pandemic,” said the Hon. Minister of Tourism, Mr. Haydn Hughes. “Silver/Seaborne has been our valued partner for many years, and the San Juan gateway is vital to the growth of our industry. Maintaining and expanding access to Anguilla is essential for tourism development, and the restoration of this service is an important step as we reopen our island to international travelers,” he continued.

“We are honored to service Anguilla, which has long been one of our most popular routes,” declared Captain Steven Dowda, Vice President of Caribbean Operations for Silver Airways and Seaborne Airlines. “Anguilla’s tourism product is exceptional, and our relationship with Anguilla is a strong and mutually beneficial one. We look forward to working closely with our tourism partners here to grow arrivals to the island and increase service this winter.”

The Silver Airways service will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays, with two rotations each day for a total of four flights per week.

On Thursdays, the flight will depart San Juan at 10:30 hours and arrive in Anguilla at 11:35 hours. The return flight will leave Anguilla at 12.15 hours, arriving in San Juan at 13. On Saturdays, the flight will depart San Juan at 13.20 hours and arrive in Anguilla at 14.25 hours. The return flight departs Anguilla at 14.55 hours and arrives in San Juan at 16.00 hours. All times given are local. Silver’s codeshare agreements facilitate seamless connections with airline partners American Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Delta, and Copa.

“The Anguilla Tourist Board will be partnering with our stakeholders on island and our travel advisors in-market to promote Silver’s service as an ideal option for traveling to Anguilla,” said Stacey Liburd, Director of Tourism. “By flying directly into the island, you not only arrive before noon but in 15 minutes you can be exiting the airport and on your way to the beach! This service makes traveling to Anguilla easy, convenient and affordable.”

Anguilla announces May 25 border reopening

May 7, 2021 by PressEditor

Anguilla has reduced the quarantine time for fully-vaccinated visitors to the country beginning Tuesday, May 25, 2021.

Today the Government of Anguilla announced that the island’s borders will reopen to visitors on May 25, 2021.  This is following a month-long closure for the effective management of a cluster of active COVID-19 cases, identified on April 22.

In light of the successful containment of this recent cluster, and the progressive vaccination program on island, the Government of Anguilla has reduced the quarantine period to seven (7) days for visitors who are fully vaccinated; meaning visitors who have had their last dose of vaccine administered at least three weeks before arrival on island.

“We suffered a temporary setback when we had to close our borders on April 22,” declared the Hon. Parliamentary Secretary Tourism, Mrs. Quincia Gumbs-Marie. “We acted swiftly and implemented a number of proactive measures to manage and contain this cluster of infections, along with an expanded vaccination outreach.  The result is that we are confident we can now safely reopen while protecting the health of our residents and visitors.”

The previously released measures will remain in place:

Vaccinated and Non-vaccinated Visitor(s)

  • Apply for entry permission.
  • Provide proof of health insurance coverage (this requirement pertains only to non-vaccinated visitors).
  • Produce a negative rt-PCR test administered 3 to 5 days prior to arrival on island.
  • Undergo a PCR test on arrival at port of entry.
  • The quarantine period for travelers with evidence of full COVID- 19 vaccination with final dose administered at least three weeks (21 days) before arrival date will be reduced to 7 days. (Non-vaccinated travelers’ quarantine remains as 10-14 days depending on country of origin).
  • Multi-generational families and/or groups with a mix of unvaccinated and vaccinated persons will all have to quarantine for a 10-day period, utilizing only approved short stay services.
  • PHE approved COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test will be approved for use for persons requiring a test for onward travel only. These tests will not be utilized for persons entering Anguilla or to exit quarantine.
  • Fees for visitors will be $300 for individual + $200 for any additional person(s) on application.
  • The fees for visitors staying in private accommodation will be:
    1) vaccinated person(s) $300 for an individual + $200 for any additional person(s).
Persons travelling in groups (more than 10 persons) will be required to be vaccinated to enter and conduct any mass gatherings in Anguilla i.e., conferences, weddings, etc.
  • Spa, Gym and Cosmetology services will be permitted to short stay visitors if both staff and visitor(s) are fully vaccinated, i.e. three weeks have passed since the final dose of an approved vaccine.

July 1, 2021 | Vaccinated Visitor(s)

  • All visitors to Anguilla who are eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 are required to be fully vaccinated at least three weeks before arrival.
  • Travelers with evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination will not be required to quarantine on arrival if the final vaccine dose is administered at least three weeks before the date of arrival.
  • Persons entering Anguilla will be required to produce a negative COVID-19 test administered 3-5 days prior to arrival.
  • Fully vaccinated persons will not be tested upon arrival.
  • Visitors must apply for entry permission.
  • No proof of health insurance is required.
  • No fees for entry.
  • Multi-generational families and/or groups with a mix of individuals who are not eligible for the vaccine (i.e. children), will not need to quarantine, but they will need a negative PCR test administered 3-5 days ahead of arrival, and may be tested on arrival and subsequently during their stay. Said tests may be subject to a fee.

“Anguilla remains a desirable and sought-after destination, which is reflected in our solid forward bookings for the Memorial Day weekend and beyond,” stated the Director of Tourism, Mrs. Stacey Liburd. “We look forward to welcoming back our many repeat guests and introducing a host of new friends to Anguilla, who will discover for themselves what makes our island a Beyond Extraordinary destination.”

The Ministry of Health and Health Authority colleagues initiated aggressive contact tracing to identify every individual within the recent cluster.  As of May 6th, 1,460 persons have been tested, and of those 64 positive cases were identified.  All individuals identified were placed under quarantine and monitored throughout their recovery.  The government also expanded vaccination sites island wide in a concerted effort to achieve the stated target of 70% of Anguilla’s resident population, which will drastically reduce the possibility of viral transmission. As of May 5, 2021 there were 8,007 registered persons for the vaccine, of which 7,332 persons had received their 1st dose, representing 58% of the target population number of 12,600 persons.  Thus far, 3,173 persons have received their 2nd dose.

The Government of Anguilla continues to update both its citizenry and the tourism community on the status of the pandemic on island in regular briefings broadcast live on its Facebook page.

April 22, 2021 by PressEditor

The Government of Anguilla today confirmed that there has been an incident of an active COVID-19 infection without direct links to an imported infection. Two additional individuals tested positive and are all in isolation.

The Ministry of Health and Health Authority colleagues have initiated aggressive contact tracing to identify every individual who may have come into close contact with these three persons. All individuals thus identified have been placed under quarantine and tested. Up to April 20, Anguilla had 30 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with one active imported case on island.

In light of this development, effective 11:59 pm on April 22, 2021, all persons on Anguilla other than those providing essential services will be required to stay at home. Also, all non-essential workplaces will close, all public gatherings are prohibited.

Restaurants and other food establishments are restricted to take-out services only. All social distancing measures are to be observed including capacity limits and mask wearing where appropriate.

All ports will be closed to incoming passengers, although those seeking to leave Anguilla will be permitted to do so.

In the announcement today, the Chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board, Mr. Kenroy Herbert stated, “Anguilla remains a safe destination, we take all incidents very seriously and our quick response and protocols reinforces how serious we are about the safety of our visitors and residents.”

Vaccination of the population remains paramount, and persons are encouraged to continue to visit vaccinations sites to receive the vaccine. To date, 6,998 persons have registered for the vaccine and of those, 6115 persons received their first dose, and 783 persons received their second dose, representing approximately 50 percent of the island’s adult population. The Government of Anguilla is committed to transparency and openness in updating both its citizenry and the tourism community of the status of the pandemic on island.

Anguilla updates public health protocols for visitors

April 13, 2021 by PressEditor

Anguilla’s Executive Council has approved a COVID 19 Exit Strategy, comprising a series of revised entry protocols, some of which will become effective immediately, while others will be introduced in phases over the coming months. The strategy is designed to safely transition the island from this extended period of economic contraction towards generating the business activity needed to revitalize the economy.

“We recognize that the widespread distribution and administration of vaccine programs in our major source markets as well as here in Anguilla have profound implications for our tourism industry,” stated the Hon. Minister of Tourism, Mr. Haydn Hughes.  “As more people become vaccinated, and new infections begin to plateau, we believe that revisiting and updating our entry protocols is merited at this time.  As always, the health and protection of both our visitors and our residents is paramount, and we are once again taking a phased approach to the full and safe reopening of our island.”

“We worked diligently with the Ministry of Health to develop our protocols, which secured Anguilla’s position as the leading destination in the successful management and control of the pandemic,” declared the Hon. Parliamentary Secretary Tourism, Mrs. Quincia Gumbs-Marie. “We have continued this successful collaboration in designing our Exit Strategy, which will allow us to rebuild our industry and return to full employment as welcome our visitors back to Anguilla.”

The following measures came into effect on Monday, April 12, 2021:

  • The stay in place mandate for international travelers who are fully vaccinated, with the final dose administered at least three weeks (21 days) prior to arrival, is reduced from 14 days to seven days.
  • Persons will still be required to submit a test 3 – 5 days prior to their arrival, be tested on arrival and at the end of the quarantine period.
  • Multi-generational families and/or groups with a mix of unvaccinated and vaccinated persons will all have to quarantine for a 10-day period, utilizing only approved short stay services.
  • The Entry Application Fee for fully vaccinated visitors staying under 90 days in a villa or hotel is US$300 per individual, and $200 for each additional person.
  • The Entry Application Fee for fully vaccinated returning residents or visitors who are staying in an approved private dwelling home is US$300 per individual, and $200 for each additional person.
  • The Entry Application Fee for unvaccinated returning residents or visitors who are staying in an approved private dwelling home is US$600 per individual, and $200 for each additional person.

Effective May 1, the following protocols will apply:

  • All persons traveling in groups (i.e. more than 10 persons) must be fully vaccinated to enter and attend or conduct any mass gatherings in Anguilla, e.g. weddings, conferences, etc.
  • Spa, gym and cosmetology services will be allowed if both guests and staff therapists/consultants are fully vaccinated, i.e. three weeks have passed since the final dose of an approved vaccine.
  • All frontline hospitality workers, along with port and transportation staff are required to receive the COVID-19 vaccination (first dose by May 1).

“We have safely welcomed thousands of guests over the past five months, and we are confident that we will continue to do so under this amended regime,” declared Mr. Kenroy Herbert, Chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board.  “Our visitors appreciate the extra steps we have taken to ensure their safety while enabling them to experience our exceptional tourism product.  There is tremendous interest in Anguilla, and we are seeing a significant increase in our arrivals; our forward bookings for this summer and particularly Winter 2021/22 are also very encouraging.”

It is estimated that 65% – 70% of Anguilla’s resident population will have been fully vaccinated by the end of June 2021, enabling the island to achieve herd immunity.  Starting on July 1, Anguilla will remove the fee and quarantine requirements for visitors who are fully vaccinated at least three weeks before arrival.  The entry protocols will be further revised in phases, leading to the elimination of all requirements by October 1, 2021.

Phase 1 runs from July 1through August 31, 2021:

  • All visitors to Anguilla who are eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19, are required to be fully vaccinated at least three weeks before arrival (i.e. persons 18 and older).
  • Fully vaccinated persons will not be tested upon arrival.
  • Persons with evidence of full COVID-19 vaccination will not be required to quarantine on arrival if the final vaccine dose is administered at least three weeks before date of arrival.
  • All persons entering Anguilla will be required to produce a negative COVID-19 test 3-5 days before entry.
  • Multi-generational families and/or groups with a mix of individuals who are not eligible for the vaccine (i.e. children), will not need to quarantine, but they will need a negative PCR test 3-5 days ahead of arrival, and may be tested on arrival and subsequently during their stay.
  • Unvaccinated returning residents will be required to:
  • Produce a negative COVID-19 test 3-5 days prior to arrival
  • Submit to a COVID-19 test on arrival
  • Quarantine for 10 days in approved accommodation

Phase 2 runs from September 1 through September 30, 2021:

  • Unvaccinated returning residents will be required to:
    • Produce a negative COVID-19 test 3-5 days prior to arrival
    • Submit to a COVID-19 test on arrival
    • Quarantine for 7 days in approved accommodation

Phase 3, which signifies the culmination of the government’s COVID-19 Exit Strategy, comes into effect on October 1, 2021:

  • The travel authorization application for entry will be removed.
  • It will be the duty of all transport operators to ensure that their passengers have all the necessary documentation for entry including:
    • Evidence of completed COVID-19 vaccinations
    • Pre-arrival test for unvaccinated returning residents
  • All Phase 2 provisions for unvaccinated persons remain in place.
  • The legal requirements for businesses providing services to short stay guests (those operating in the bubble) will be removed entirely.

Anguilla Announces Phase Two Reopening Including the Bubble Concept to Safely Enhance Visitor’s Experiences

September 30, 2020 by PressEditor

Anguilla’s Ministry of Tourism is preparing for Phase Two of the tourism reopening, slated to start on November 1, 2020.  In Phase Two, hotels and resorts, along with the villas, have been added into the approved and certified accommodations mix for visitors to the island. Furthermore, the government is introducing the bubble concept, which allows properties to safely offer their guests access to a variety of approved amenities, services, and activities while they stay in place. These vary by property but may include watersports, select indoor and outdoor games, beach yoga, and other activities, provided that they are implemented in accordance with general COVID 19 protocols, such as social distancing, sanitizing and hygiene practices.

A revised fee schedule has also been introduced to help offset the steep costs of managing the re-entry protocols and procedures.  For visitors staying at a pre-approved property, for a period of less than three months, the fees listed below are effective immediately:

5 DAYS OR LESS

Individual Traveler: US$300

Couple: US$500

Family: Main applicant US$300 + US$250 per additional family member.

6 DAYS TO 3 MONTHS (90 DAYS)

Individual Traveler: US$400

Couple: US$600 + US$250 per additional family member.

Family: Main applicant US$400 + US$250 per additional family member.

This fee covers two (2) tests per person, surveillance and costs associated with the additional public health presence.

For extended stays of over 3 months and up to 12 months, the original fees still apply, as follows:

3 MONTHS TO 12 MONTHS

Individual Traveler: US$ 2,000

Family (4 persons): US$ 3,000 + US$ 250 per additional family member.

Family: Main Applicant + three (3) dependents.

A Dependent:

a.            a child or step-child under the age of 26 years;

b.            any other relative who is, by reason of age or any infirmity of body or mind, wholly dependent on that person for his/her subsistence.

This fee covers two (2) tests per person, surveillance and costs associated with the additional public health presence, the cost of extended immigration time/entry and a digital work permit.

All fees are payable only on approval of the travel application.

In June 2020, Anguilla was categorized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as having “no cases” of COVID-19.   Anguilla currently has the classification of “No Travel Health Notice: Very Low Risk for COVID-19” from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/map-and-travel-notices.html).

To date, there are no active or suspected cases on the island, and to ensure that this remains the case, there is no change to the entry requirements.  A negative test result obtained three to five days prior to arrival along with travel health insurance that covers COVID-related treatment is required, and all visitors will be given a PCR test on arrival.  A second test will be administered on day 10 of their visit, for those originating from low-risk countries, and on day 14 for guests arriving from higher-risk countries. Once a negative result is returned after the second test, guests are then free to explore the island.

Travel Applications are being accepted online at the Anguilla Tourist Board’s website; a concierge will guide each applicant through the process.  The site provides visitors with everything they need to know about the application process as well as experiencing life in Anguilla.
