World Tourism Network just opened its latest chapter in India’s largest city Mumbai. Tourism has an important role in this vibrant metropolis of almost 22 million people.
The new WTN Chapter will be guided by Chapter President Dr. Niraalee Shah to bring together tourism enthusiasts, professionals, and stakeholders in Mumbai.
As a chapter of the World Tourism Network, members become part of a global initiative in 133 countries to support small and medium-sized travel and tourism businesses.
WTN chapter members have access to a local network that is well connected to the global infrastructure of the World Tourism Network, aiming to bridge conversations with the public and private sectors.

Dr. Shah says: “We all know, the tourism industry plays a vital role in our city’s economy, cultural landscape and responsible tourism. WTN is a platform that fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation within the tourism sector on a global scale. We believe that by establishing a WTN Mumbai Chapter, we can harness the power of local expertise and networks to contribute to this global movement.”
World Tourism Network Chairman Juergen Steinmetz said:
“We’re excited to have a chapter in Mumbai and with Dr. Shah we have a leader who knows what it takes to run it professionally and with passion. Dr. Shah demonstrated in her book Celebrating Cultural Diversity, she understands global sensitivity, loves her country, and has a global mindset.
“India is the perfect example of amazing cultural diversity which is all reflected in Mumbai as the Gateway to India. Mumbai has access to up to 2 million potential new members, considering this city has 22 million people and 10% of the world’s labor force is directly or indirectly employed because of travel and tourism.
“Mumbai, and all of India is a huge opportunity for the World Tourism Network.”
