Why should I do the Camino?

If you have not yet found a reason to do the Camino besides discovering the Cathedral and visiting the tomb of the apostle, we will give you a few reasons to encourage you to embark in this adventure. You are going to love it!

  • Find yourself. Most people who finish the Camino say that one of the best things that has ever happened to them while doing it, is that they have found themselves again. It is unquestionably a once in a lifetime experience. Walking five to eight hours a day, most of the time in silence, makes you think. Repeating the same exercise every day during weeks allows you to realize which things are important and not so important in life.
  • Recover your will. The Camino is hard, very hard. Anyone can walk for six hours but doing it for several continuous days or even weeks can only be achieved with a great will. The Camino and its ways demand for will, desire and the strength to move forward.
  • Cry, Shout and Release. It is said that every pilgrim cries at least once during the Camino. It may seem like a trivial motive, but many souls dwell among us who have not really cried for decades. For those who have converted their hearts to granite stone and those who feel vulnerable without the shame of showing other their weakness, this can be truly important. In addition, crying frees us from accumulated tension and helps us escape.
  • Enjoy all the culture along the Camino. Actually, Tour Camino de Santiago was declared “Cultural Itinerary of Europe” in 1987. Throughout its path you can find thousands of buildings and monuments of great historic value. The Camino, with its peaceful and personal beauty, allows you to enjoy hundreds of artistic treasures at the speed that suits you. And let’s not forget about the food and wine along the different regions you will cross on your way.
  • Meet fellow Pilgrims and experience the true solidarity. As in other outstanding experiences, there is an inclination to connect with people you encounter and share your day to day. Every day you will see people on your path. At least once during the journey every pilgrim faints, suffers accidents, etc, but rest assured that at least one pilgrim will stop to help you. There are no social classes when on the Camino, egoism is left behind. Whether or not you have religious beliefs, everyone is your brother, and you will do whatever is in your power to help those who need it.
  • Lose weight and get fit. The fact of walking an average of 15 miles on a daily basis for several weeks can be a great ally to get rid of those extra pounds.
  • Earn the Compostela. This is the final reward of completing the Camino, your Compostela. You have to at least walk the last 100 km on foot to Santiago, or 200 km by bicycle.
