Akagera National Park
This is Rwanda’s famous Savanna reserve. Akagera National Park was named after the river that runs along its eastern boundary; a vast wetland occupies eats of the park. The mighty Akagera River feeds a complex of a dozen of lakes linked by extensive papyrus swamps and winding water.
There are plenty of animals around including elephants, buffalos, zebras, giraffes, antelopes and hippos. The lakes support high concentrations of hippo and huge crocodiles. Leopard, Lion and black rhino can as well be seen. There are 550 bird species.
Volcanoes National Park
This national park protects the Rwandan sector of the Virunga Mountains, a chain of six extinct and three active volcanoes along the borders with Uganda and the DRC.
