ION Harbour, a Maltese restaurant in Valletta, Malta helmed by Chef Simon Rogan, has been honored with Two Michelin Stars consecutively for two years by The MICHELIN Guide Malta 2025, an award well deserved.
New to the list this year are three restaurants that highlight the flavors of Malta. The first, La Pira, located in Malta’s Capital, Valletta, which offers an abundance of traditional Maltese dishes. The second, Risette, a luxury cuisine experience located opposite Our Lady of Mount Carmel basilica, offers emblematic foods that highlight the culture of Malta. Lastly, The Seafood Grill Market, a hidden spot that offers fresh seafood highlighting the archipelago’s authenticity, has been awarded One Michelin Star. The restaurants that have retained their One MICHELIN Star status are Under Grain, Valletta; De Mondion, Mdina; Noni, Valletta; Rosamí, St. Julian’s and The Fernandõ Gastrotheque in Sliema, totaling six.
MICHELIN highlights the expertise and identity of Malta’s gastronomy stating, “Between abundant creativity and the mastery of classical expertise, each one asserts its identity. Driven forward by a continual pursuit of excellence and a meticulous attention to the quality of ingredients, whether from the Mediterranean Sea or the rich local terrain, this effervescence demonstrates the increasing maturity of Maltese gastronomy.”

Furthermore, MICHELIN has added restaurants La Pira, Risette, and The Seafood Grill Market to the MICHELIN Guide recommended section, bringing the total number of honored restaurants in the Malta guide to 43. The 2025 MICHELIN Guide Malta also features five Bib Gourmand entries AYU, Gżira; Grain Street, Valletta; Rubino, Valletta; Terrone, Birgu; and Commando, Mellieha. All Michelin recommended restaurants highlight the high-quality dining experiences available across Malta and its sister island of Gozo.

Malta Tourism Authority CEO Carlo Micallef stated: “We are thrilled to see Malta’s culinary excellence celebrated on the global stage once again. The recognition of Le GV for the first time alongside the other five MICHELIN one stars as well as the outstanding recognition of ION Harbour once more as a MICHELIN two-star restaurant, underscores the incredible talent and innovation within our culinary community.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg expressed that the MICHELIN Guide assists the upholding of the culinary reputation within the Maltese islands, and a mix of tradition and modernity within the gastronomic excellence produced in Malta’s kitchens. Minister Borg underscored the importance of the tourism sector within the Maltese Islands, emphasizing the Government will continue supporting this vital industry.
