April 9, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Today, Southwest Airlines launched nonstop service to Long Beach Airport from Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC).

The flights are scheduled throughout the day to allow travelers more choices in departure and arrival time, and to support ongoing demand for travel between the Bay Area and Los Angeles Basin.

“Southwest has added important new service between Mineta San Jose International Airport and Long Beach Airport, a modern and accessible gateway to Southern California,” said Director of Aviation John Aitken. “The Bay Area to Los Angeles Basin corridor is the U.S.’s busiest air travel market, and Southwest’s four new daily flights give travelers more choices in airline, time-of-day for travel, and airport proximity to their business or leisure destination.”

Korean Air and the Hanjin Group Chairman and founder of Skyteam died in Los Angeles

April 8, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Yang Ho Cho, 70, Chairman and CEO of Korean Air and the Hanjin Group, died peacefully April 7 in a Los Angeles hospital after a brief illness.  He was considered to be an Air transport pioneer.

Mr. Cho’s reach extended far beyond Asia.  He was a founder of the Skyteam international airline alliance and led the bid committee that took the 2018 Winter Olympics to Korea.  He recently completed development of the iconic Wilshire Grand complex in downtown Los Angeles, the tallest building west of the Mississippi.

He served on the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA); the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, University of Southern California; and has received honorary doctorate degrees from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (Florida) and the Ukraine National Aviation University.

Under his guidance, Korean Air became a global powerhouse flying to 124 cities and 44 countries, emerging as America’s largest Asian airline with 15 North American gateways. He recently negotiated a joint venture with Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, that created the industry’s most comprehensive transpacific network. The airlines are scheduled to launch a new non-stop route between Boston and Seoul on April 12.

Mr. Cho was in the airline industry all his life, as his father, Choong-Hoon Cho, had acquired and privatized Korean Air 50 years ago.  The younger Cho was named the airline’s Chairman and CEO in 1999 having served as President and CEO four years earlier. Mr. Cho began working for Korean Air as a manager in the Americas Regional Headquarters in Los Angeles in 1974 after graduating from the University of Southern California.

Three weeks ago Korean Air investors removed him from the board in a victory for shareholder activism.

Mr. Cho’s leadership has been widely recognized over the years. He was awarded the title of `Grand Officier’ in France’s Légion d’Honneur, ‘Polaris’ in Mongolia and also the `Mugunghwa Medal’ in Korea – all of which are the highest order of civil merit awarded in these countries.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Mr. Cho was vice chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries, co-chairman of the Korea-U.S. Business Council, and served as the co-president of l’Année France-Corée 2015-2016’, celebrating 130 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and France.

Mr. Cho is survived by his wife, Myung-hee Lee, son Walter, daughters Heather and Emily and five grandsons.  Services are pending in South Korea.

Hong Kong Airlines debuts Chris Cosentino’s Business Class menu

March 22, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Hong Kong Airlines has launched a brand new Business Class menu for its customers travelling out of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) from 22 March 2019. Designed exclusively by celebrity chef and television personality Chris Cosentino, the new LAX Business Class menu is an adaption of his current San Francisco Business Class menu and comes with a slight twist to cater to the preferences of Southern California travelers.

Chris Cosentino is the chef and owner of San Francisco restaurant, Cockscomb, where he reinterprets classic San Francisco dishes by adding his own unique twist. He is also known as the winner of Top Chef Masters, a contestant on The Next Iron Chef and for his appearance in Iron Chef America in addition to his extensive work raising awareness and funds for Chefs Cycle in support of No Kid Hungry, a national charity fighting to end childhood hunger.

Chef Cosentino collaborated with Hong Kong Airlines in late 2017 to design a comprehensive menu of 12 dishes, including a series of appetizers, main courses and desserts to be rotated regularly on the airline’s service from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Hong Kong. His Business Class inflight menu was officially launched on the SFO inaugural flight to Hong Kong on 25 March 2018 and has received positive feedback from Hong Kong Airlines’ customers for his “big in flavor, rich in texture” dishes.

“When the opportunity came for me to work with Hong Kong Airlines to make delicious inflight meals in Business Class, I jumped at the chance,” said Chef Cosentino at a media preview event in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Using my years of education and experiences to create meals that would not only satisfy but excite the guests at 10,000 feet up and giving a fresh new approach to what inflight food can be has been a complete joy. Launching our new menu on the Los Angeles-Hong Kong route is very exciting. I am looking forward to flying on the first flight showcasing the menu,” he added.

Mr Chris Birt, Hong Kong Airlines Director of Service Delivery said: “Hong Kong Airlines always strives to deliver the best services to our customers. We launched our menu partnership with Chef Cosentino exactly a year ago on our San Francisco route. His menu has proven to be such a hit with our Business Class customers that we are excited to now bring his signature innovative and creative cuisine to those flying with us from Los Angeles.”

Hong Kong Airlines’ Los Angeles service was launched in December 2017 and was the airline’s first destination in the continental United States. The daily service is currently operated by Airbus A350, one of the newest and most technologically advanced aircraft in the world. In September 2018, Hong Kong Airlines introduced its new Business Class product on the Los Angeles route, reaffirming its commitment to serve the USA market with its best products and services.

Toilet Paper Donation for Southern California’s underserved by casino

October 23, 2018 by Newswire

One ply or two. Single roll or double. Whichever way one prefers his or her toilet paper, it’s hard to argue that it isn’t a necessity. But have you ever thought about what happens to the rolls of toilet paper after you leave a hotel room? Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif. saves all of its partially unused rolls of toilet paper that become too low for hotel rooms and regularly distributes the rolls to organizations that assist the region’s underserved.

On Friday, Oct. 19, Pechanga volunteers drove an especially large donation of toilet paper, facial tissue, gently used blankets and even bedroom slippers to Murrieta where they were distributed to clients of Project T.O.U.C.H. Pechanga volunteers estimated there to be 1,500 rolls packed into a 15-passenger van that had all of its seats removed. Recipients helped unload the gigantic bags, some overflowing with toilet tissue, from the van. Project T.O.U.C.H. clients then loaded up their own take-home bags with toilet paper, as well as non-perishable foods and toys donated by other groups.

“We are always looking for ways to be more environmentally conscious and for ways to help communities in need,” said Jared Munoa, President of the Pechanga Development Corporation. “These donations make it so that folks facing challenges don’t need to choose between food, medicine, or household necessities – all while making good use of resources.”

“People may take toilet paper for granted but in our program, there are many of our clients on very fixed incomes and on food stamps, and many people don’t know you cannot buy toilet paper or any kind of hygiene products with food stamps,” said Anne Unmacht, director of Project T.O.U.C.H. “Toilet paper is like gold for us. For us to be able to bless our clients with this donation and throughout the year, is more valuable than you could ever know.”

Assistance organizations say the unique donation provides the less fortunate another way to better absorb their budgets. Toilet paper can be expensive, according to Madehow.com. The average person uses one to two full rolls per week. At $1.00 a roll, that’s $104 worth of toilet paper a year. For a family of four, that unfurls to $416.

Each year, Pechanga Resort Casino donates more than 20,000 partially unused toilet paper rolls. Donations also get distributed to the Bread of Life Rescue Mission in Oceanside, Calif.
