San Francisco International Airport purchases six new electric buses

April 22, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Today Proterra announced that San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has purchased six 40′ Proterra Catalyst E2 electric buses and three 60 kW Proterra plug-in chargers, joining a growing list of airports across North America transitioning to electric buses for airport ground transportation. The new battery-electric bus fleet will reduce Bay Area emissions and support SFO’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2021 while cutting its bus operating costs.

As one of the fastest-growing airports in the U.S., SFO has ambitious plans in place to reduce its carbon footprint. SFO’s Five-Year Strategic Plan sets goals of carbon neutrality across airport-controlled operations by 2021 and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent from a 1990 baseline. Part of that plan includes the creation of a Clean Vehicle Policy to promote the adoption and deployment of low emission vehicles by both airport departments and ground transportation providers. The new battery-electric Proterra Catalyst buses will replace six diesel buses in its current operating fleet and will eliminate more than 23 million pounds of greenhouse gas tailpipe emissions over the 12-year life of the vehicles. SFO expects to purchase additional battery-electric buses to replace its CNG vehicles, for a greener, more modern fleet.

“Earth Day serves as a call to action; an opportunity for us to reaffirm our commitment to the environment,” said Airport Director Ivar C. Satero. “SFO is an airport industry leader in sustainability, and we have set big goals to achieve zero net energy use, zero waste, and carbon neutrality. By deploying San Francisco’s first public battery-electric buses, we’re on the path to zero emissions in our ground transportation services, leading the way in our quest to be the world’s most sustainable airport.”

The new electric buses will integrate batteries that are designed and manufactured down the street from the airport at Proterra’s Silicon Valley headquarters in Burlingame, California. With 440 kWh of battery capacity on board, the buses will be part of SFO’s fleet that currently provides buses to shuttle passengers between the terminals, long-term parking garages and other airport locations along daily routes.

SFO joins other California airports that are leading the electrification trend across ground transportation fleets, including Sacramento International Airport (SMF) and Silicon Valley’s Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport (SJC). Beyond California, five additional airports across the country have chosen Proterra electric vehicles for their ground transportation needs, including Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), Honolulu International Airport (HNL), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA).

“San Francisco International Airport has long been a leader in sustainability and joins other forward-thinking airports around the country in transitioning ground fleets to 100 percent battery-electric buses,” said Proterra CEO Ryan Popple. “We are proud to help one of our local airports offer superior service and meet its sustainability goals while also providing reduced vehicle maintenance costs and lower total cost of ownership.”

Norwegian’s new operation will add 14 extra weekly departures and contribute over 5,200 weekly two-way seats to the Billund market this summer.

Scheduled flights to Malaga will operate twice-weekly on Mondays and Fridays, before growing to a four times weekly service from 6 May when Wednesday and Sunday rotations will be added. Palma de Mallorca services will operate on Mondays and Fridays, while Faro sees a Saturday departure and Ponta Delgada being flown on Tuesdays. Taiwanese spy targets Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Resort in Florida with malicious software

April 2, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida is a luxury property and travel club owned by U.S. President Trump. The resort was the possible scene of an attempted spy attack on the United States by Taiwan.

According to a local news report, a Chinese woman carrying a passport by the Republic of China, what is Taiwan, has been charged with making a false statement to the U.S. Secret Service after entering President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on bogus pretenses while carrying a thumb drive that contained “malicious software.

Yujing Zhang was questioned while President Trump was playing golf at the Trump International course nearby.

Zhang, after passing by at least five Secret Service agents and arriving in the main reception area of Mar-a-Lago told the Secret Service that she was there to attend a “United Nations Friendship Event” between China and the United States.

That event did not exist, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Southern Florida. The complaint noted that Zhang had traveled past several signs clearly stating that the areas she was visiting were under the jurisdiction of the Secret Service and that “persons entering without lawful authority are subject to arrest and prosecution.”

Zhang was carrying four mobile phones, a laptop computer, an external hard drive, and a thumb drive.

A preliminary forensic examination of the thumb drive determined it contained malicious software. The Secret Service declined to comment.

According to the criminal complaint, Zhang was admitted to Mar-a-Lago after passing through a Secret Service checkpoint, where she presented an agent with two Republic of China passports carrying her name, and her photograph, the complaint said.

Zhang was charged with making false statements to a federal officer, and entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds.

Zang was allowed by Mar-a-Lago security to enter the property “due to a potential language barrier issue,” the complaint said.

She was then picked up in a golf cart shuttle by a Mar-a-Lago valet driver, who asked her where she intended to go.

A Secret Service agent was notified after a receptionist checked all of the access lists for Mar-a-Lago to confirm whether Zhang was approved to be on the property, and found that she was not authorized, according to the complaint.

Hahn Air takes logical next step to distribute Airbus corporate shuttle service

March 27, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

“As we have the know-how and the systems’ infrastructure in place, it is only a logical next step for us to support corporations and make their intra-company flights available in the GDSs,” said Mathieu Montmessin, Vice President Product & Airline Distribution for Hahn Air.

Hahn Air enables the booking of Airbus’ corporate shuttle flights in Amadeus under the Hahn Air Lines designator HR. Tickets can be issued by Airbus’ travel agents on the Hahn Air HR-169 ticket. All Airbus corporate shuttle flights are exclusively offered for Airbus staff. Hahn Air serves as the validating and marketing carrier, while the flights are operated by three other European carriers.

They currently offer a total of five connections: Between Hamburg-Finkenwerder (XFW) and Toulouse (TLS), between Chester (CEG) and Toulouse via Bristol (BRS), as well as between Augsburg (AGB) and Marseille (MRS). Hahn Air provides Airbus with a complete distribution and handling package, including displaying the inventory in the GDS, booking and ticketing processes, reporting and passenger handling at all relevant airports.

“Since 1999, Hahn Air has specialized in offering indirect distribution solutions for airlines of any business model. As the market leader in the industry, we are facilitating ticket sales between airlines and 100,000 travel agencies in 190 markets. Our connectivity to all major GDSs and almost all BSPs worldwide and our network of interline partners, which is the largest in the world, makes us the natural choice for intra-company shuttle flight distribution. We are pleased and honoured to be able to announce this new partnership with Airbus,” Montmessin added.
