PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker makes another record-breaking year

October 14, 2019 by forimmediaterelease.net -

The casino industry has always been lucrative. With its allure to the risk-loving individuals with high testosterone levels, the industry has made billions and even trillions of dollars.

With the popularization of Internet services and the real money casino online games, the industry has seen even more revenues. The reason is simple: the players can access their favorite casino games from any part of the world at any time of the day.

This trend is particularly obvious with the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) held by PokerStars. After the record-breaking year of 2018, the tournament set another record this year.

2019 record

With the huge WCOOP attendance rate in 2019, the Championship far surpassed its predetermined prize pool. Initially, the guaranteed total prize money for winners was set to $75 million, however, with over 1.2 million player entries, the prize volume was increased by close to $30 million to reach $104.7 million.

It’s interesting to note that this year’s record outweighs the record made the previous year. In 2018, the World Championship of Online Poker had the largest prize pool of $99 million on offer. Online gambling is apparently conquering its revenue heights.

20-day tournament’s Main Event High broke another record with its $11.18 million prize pool, becoming the largest WCOOP Main Event since 2010.

Record in Europe

The Championship was an overwhelming success in European countries as well. This year, the players of Southern Europe, namely Spain, Portugal, and France were able to access Galactic Series.

The series had a guaranteed prize volume of €15 million, which was far surpassed with the actual prize pool of €19.42 million across 23 days of gaming. This number beat last year’s €17 million prize pool.

Even in Italy, the expected €3 million pool increased to about €3.7 million in Galactic Series. The European division of WCOOP clearly didn’t fall behind the global payout rate.

European Poker Tour in Barcelona

While the World Championship of Online Poker was a great success with record-breaking numbers, the world of online poker didn’t stop there.

The recent European Poker Tour in Barcelona turned out to be another record-breaking event in the online poker world. In fact, the tour was so successful that in its 16 years of existence, the recent one has claimed the title of the largest stop in the history of poker tours.

The European Poker Tour in Barcelona, with its 12-day gaming event, saw more than 23,600 registered players. The series took place from August 20th to September 1st and gave out more than €52.9 million in prize awards.

The main tournament was another big event in the history of EPT with 1,988 registered players. It eventually ended with €9.6 million in awarded prize money and the main prize went to the winner, Simon Brandstrom, who also won World Poker Tour UK this year.

Online casino is flourishing

As you can see, online casino tournaments are making incredible amounts of money and are breaking previous records. This year, the total prize pool of the World Championship of Online Poker surpassed $100 million mark with its $104.7 million in total awards.

PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker makes another record-breaking yearThe tournament’s Main Event broke another record with $11.18 million prize pool. These and other record-breaking rates show just how successful the online casino industry really is.

Machu Picchu Pueblo: First 100% sustainable Latin America city

April 19, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Machu Picchu Pueblo is the first city in Latin America to sustainably manage 100% of its solid waste.

Through the process of pyrolysis, in which the waste is decomposed at high temperatures without oxygen, 7 tons of trash is processed per day, generating bio-coal, a natural fertilizer that will be used to restore the Andean cloud forest and contribute to the agricultural productivity of Machu Picchu. Continuing initiatives for the conservation and environmental care of Machu Picchu, AJE Group and Inkaterra presented this first Organic Waste Treatment Plant to the city.

Alongside the Organic Waste Treatment Plant, a Plastic Compactor Plant to SERNANP will be used to recycle trash found along the Inca Trail, the most famous trekking route in South America. The plant was donated in 2017 and prevented the ruins of Machu Picchu from entering UNESCO’s list of Heritage at Risk. Currently, 14 tons of polyester plastic are processed daily in this plant.

In 2018, a Biodiesel and Glycerin Plant was inaugurated at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. By processing used vegetable oil from Machu Picchu’s homes, lodges, hotels, and restaurants, 20 gallons of biodiesel are produced daily from nearly 6,000 liters of used oil a month. The glycerin obtained in the process of making biodiesel is also used by the municipality to clean the stone floors, thus replacing chemical products.

These cumulative efforts to turn the city of Machu Picchu into a model of global sustainability won the Peruvian “Líderes + 1” prize and, in Germany, the prestigious “Die Goldene Palme” award in the category for Responsible Tourism.

Brexit uncertainty, but LHR is doing well

April 15, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Despite Brexit uncertainty, Heathrow remains a bright light for the UK, with the role we play in keeping people and products moving evident. Our new domestic connections will be pivotal in linking more regions and nations to global opportunities, benefiting all corners of this great country and we look forward to announcing many more of these as part of the expansion programme,”  Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye said

  • Heathrow’s passenger numbers continued to climb in March, with over 6.5 million passengers travelling through the UK’s only hub airport, ringing in the 29th consecutive month of record growth for the airport. Notable spikes in the previous month were St Patricks and Mother’s Day, attitudes towards travel remain strong despite ongoing uncertainty around Brexit’.
  • Africa performed especially well over the past month, increasing by 6.2% compared to the same time last year. Domestic connections also saw a slight uplift (+0.2%) with British Airways launching its 2nd service to Inverness and Flybe growing their loads by more than a fifth (23%) with an inaugural flight to Cornwall on March 31.
  • More than 149,000 metric tonnes of cargo travelled through the UK’s biggest port by value, further demonstrating the importance of Heathrow in a post Brexit world.
  • Both Latin America and Africa saw remarkable double digit growth with the former up 23% on 2018 due to additional services to Brazil and increased volumes to Mexico. Freight to and from Africa grew by 11%, thanks to Virgin’s growth on routes to the continent.
  • Two of Heathrow’s Terminals made it into the top five globally, with Terminal 5 taking top spot. In addition, Heathrow was voted amongst the world’s top 10 airports overall and won “Best airport in Western Europe” and “World’s Best Airport Shopping”.
  • In March, Heathrow launched the airport’s new Innovation Prize to fund ideas and solutions addressing aviation environmental impact. The prize is sponsored by Heathrow’s new Centre of Excellence for Sustainability, which connects experts and offers Heathrow as a living laboratory to test and develop ideas that encourage sustainable aviation.
  • The expansion project reached another significant milestone, as the names and locations of the 18 shortlisted sites in the running to become offsite construction centres for Britain’s new runway were revealed. Shortlisted sites will now pitch to airport bosses for their chance to become one of the final four construction centres, to be announced early next year.
  • Heathrow announced the launch of their 10th domestic route. The route is operated by Flybe and links the hub airport to Cornwall in Newquay for the first time since 1997.

Heathrow Airport: Calling all sustainable innovators

March 28, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Heathrow has today launched a prize worth £30,000, to be awarded to a winning idea that will help the airport reduce its carbon emissions as it explores solutions that will address climate change. Heathrow’s new “Innovation Prize” is part of the airport’s new “Centre of Excellence,” which is a hub of learning and exploration that will accelerate the arrival of sustainable air travel. Heathrow has also today announced the launch of its first research think tank comprised of British universities.

The new Innovation Prize is open to those with entrepreneurial ideas on how to reduce carbon impacts through one of three ways:

  • Sustainable surface transport: Enabling travel to and from the airport with low or zero emissions;
  • Preparing for sustainable flight: Expediting the arrival of a fossil-fuel free flight, including through the introduction of new hybrid and electric aircraft; and
  • Delivering negative emissions: Finding new, practical ways to capture and use carbon at or near the airport.

Applications for the Innovation Prize will be accepted until May 22 online through a dedicated website.

The prize is sponsored by Heathrow’s Centre of Excellence which connects experts – from entrepreneurs to academics – and offers Heathrow itself as a living laboratory to test and try new ideas to encourage sustainability in aviation. The Centre is already investigating how to turn waste plastics into pavement materials at the airport.

Matt Gorman, Heathrow Director of Sustainability, said: “Climate change is the greatest threat facing our generation and it is imperative we take meaningful steps to address our impacts – and we need to make them quickly. Through the Centre of Excellence, and by partnering with top scientists we will continue to think radically about sustainability, translate ideas into action at Heathrow, and across our industry.”

The Centre of Excellence will bring together Heathrow’s first think tank of university partners to work with the airport on new coordinated research on sustainable aviation challenges. Brunel University London, Cranfield University, the University of Essex and Royal Holloway, University of London will be invited to pitch their ideas for funding starting this summer, before initiating the successful projects later this year. The think tank will explore topics such as carbon and net zero air travel alongside other environmental challenges like noise, air quality and waste.

Professor Geoff Rodgers, Vice-Provost for Research at Brunel University London, the airport’s most local university, said: “We consider the sustainability agenda around airports and aviation to be one of the premier opportunities for UK research and innovation. Brunel University London is delighted to be involved in this initiative. It will allow us to work in collaboration with Heathrow and the other partners to develop the innovative technologies necessary for the sustainable development and growth of the airport.”

March 21, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Organizers of the St Maarten Heineken Regatta are pleased to announce that a total of $41,900 was raised during the event for local foundations. The raffle was used to drive the event’s “Green” initiatives benefiting sustainability efforts for the island and various projects from local foundations.

The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta and Heineken worked in collaboration with the Rotary Club of St Maarten, Rotary St Maarten-Mid Isle, and Motorworld, by selling raffle tickets to raise funds for a Beach Cleaning vehicle, an initiative launched last year by the Rotary.

Motorworld joined as a new presenting sponsor for the 39thSt Maarten Heineken Regatta, making a fully-loaded Hyundai Creta available to be raffled. During the week of the Regatta this car, in addition to a selection of other popular brands, were on display in the Regatta Village showcasing the wide variety of cars available for sale on the island. “The car raffle was a tremendous addition to the Regatta and this is a wonderful prize to take home. It will be a pleasure to drive the Hyundai Creta.” says winner Mr. Soons.

Rotary Club of St. Maarten’s President John Caputo says: “The Island is now one step closer to having a proper beach cleaning machine and this car raffle fundraiser almost gets us there. The Rotary Clubs of St. Maarten are working diligently to help make St. Maarten a better place to live or visit and we certainly thank all those who purchased a ticket in support of this endeavor. Even if you didn’t win the car, you have helped ensure that our beaches will remain pristine for decades to come,” said John Caputo, the President of the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten.”
President of the Rotary Club St. Maarten-Mid Isle, Denise Antrobus adds: “On behalf of the Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle, I would like to congratulate Mr. Soons on winning the car raffle.
