Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket: Advanced water technology helps reduce eco-footprint

February 21, 2019 by PressEditor

Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket is an exclusive luxury residence of 40 penthouses and suites located just steps away from Bangtao Beach, one of the island’s longest beaches lined with white sand.

Green Globe recertified Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket in January this year.

Michael Wenk, General Manager at the resort said: “For the past 7 years we have been continuously reinforcing our dedication towards environmental conservation as we believe we have to take accountability to support and protect our community and our environment. We are actively introducing innovative technological measures to help reduce our eco-footprint and preserve our fragile ecosystem.”

The resort has been leading the way with progressive practices that save precious water resources and reduces plastic pollution. In addition, various green initiatives are designed to educate guests and locals about the importance of protecting the environment.

Generation Water

In October 2017, Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket installed Generation Water technology in all Food and Beverage outlets. Generation Water is a machine that produces water from the air, then purifies and enhances the water through a process inspired by the natural water cycle. This is done by condensing water vapour (humidity) naturally found in the air and circulating it through an advanced filtration process to keep the water as fresh as possible. Minerals are then added to the water, similar to the process that occurs in nature when water flows through rocks, picking up minerals along the way.

“In 2018, we managed to save 3,453 plastic bottles in all Food and Beverage outlets. For 2019, we intend to save over 5,000 plastic bottles, as we plan to implement Generation Water in all guest rooms as well,” explained Mr. Wenk.

Upcycling the Oceans Campaign in Phuket

Situated close to the sea, the resort strives to minimize its environmental impact as much as possible. Over the past year, Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket’s  Green Team Committee participated in several Beach Cleaning activities in Phuket and also joined the “Upcycling the Oceans Campaign in Phuket”.  The beaches are a top priority at the property and the Team is committed to supporting the cleanliness of beach areas to ensure that they remain in a pristine condition just like the natural surroundings. On average all Team members combined, collected over 200kg of waste per beach.

No More Plastic Straws

Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket adheres to sustainable business practices, which have ecological and societal impacts as well as economic impacts. The property’s commitment to sustainable practices includes the changeover to paper straws at the restaurant and bar. Other hotels and restaurants have adopted this eco-friendly practice following the resort’s stance on the elimination of plastic straws.

Announcing the resort’s 2019 Green Globe re-certification, Mr. Harold Rainfroy, General Manager, said, “We are honored and proud of this achievement, as this only validates our efforts to help reduce our impact on the planet. Our team will keep on with the resort’s ethical and eco practices and will continue to develop programs towards social and environmental sustainability.”

Regarded as a pioneering hotel for sustainable tourism in Phuket, the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach has been active in social and cultural sustainability, as well as ecologically friendly practices. The Phuket resort also recently launched its ‘Orchid Garden,’ an on-going project which aims not only to beautify the resort grounds but also help preserve and propagate several species of Thai native orchids.

An eco-focused initiative is in the pipeline as well, with the re-introduction of its ‘Organic Vegetable Garden and Plant Nursery’ where guests will have the chance to know more about organic planting and the ‘farm-to-table’ concept. The organic garden and nursery will host an array of vegetables and herbs including parsley, chili, eggplant, Thai basil, lemongrass and pandan. This project will also excite food lovers who are looking for a remarkable culinary experience. Once launched, guests may sign up for a Thai cooking class held in the organic garden, which will provide them with plenty of opportunities on picking their own herbs and spices needed for the cooking adventure.

For years, the Mövenpick Karon Beach Resort has also demonstrated a firm commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. The property works closely with the local community in Phuket, supporting local schools and donating to various charitable institutions. Mövenpick Hotel Apartments Al Mamzar Dubai making a difference in the community

January 23, 2019 by PressEditor

Mövenpick Hotel Apartments Al Mamzar Dubai is nestled in the elegant district of Al Mamzar, close to Al Mamzar Beach Park, DAFZA, Sharjah, Deira and Bur Dubai. The upscale hotel is a central choice for business, leisure and long term guests with close proximity to metro stations, shopping centres, commercial areas, beaches and attractions in Dubai’s historical centre.

Green Globe recently recertified Mövenpick Hotel Apartments Al Mamzar Dubai after a comprehensive audit was undertaken by the property. Energy, water and waste are monitored on a regular basis and targets set accordingly. In line with its sustainability management plan, the hotel makes consistent efforts to reduce energy and water consumption and waste. The goal this year is to reduce energy usage and waste by 3%.

To stimulate regional economic activity, seasonal ingredients are used in the hotel’s contemporary all day dining restaurant, Spices that offers exotic Asian creations and traditional Swiss cuisine to world classics. Local products including dates and Arabic coffee are also served.

The end of last year was busy with the hotel supporting various charitable causes. Mövenpick Hotel and Resorts annual A Kilo of Kindness campaign was held in September where guests and members of the local community were asked to donate food, clothing and educational supplies to support the Beit Al Khair Society. The organisation aims to help those in need including the poor and elderly, widows, divorced women, sick, low-income families, families of prison inmates, the disabled, people with special needs, orphans and students. A total of 352 kilos of food, school supplies, and clothing donations were given to the Society as part of the UN International Day of Charity.

Staff members also participated in the Beat Diabetes Walk, an initiative designed to raise community awareness regarding diabetes that is hosted by the Landmark Group. Other environmental programs included Clean Up UAE 2018 where hotel members joined with other volunteers of the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) to clean up surrounding natural areas. In addition, lights were turned off at the property for an hour as part of annual Earth Day celebrations.

Kids and smart technology shine at Mövenpick Hotel Zürich Regensdorf

December 5, 2018 by PressEditor

Mövenpick Hotel Zürich Regensdorf is a family-friendly four-star hotel situated north of Zurich, home to leading financial, banking, and research centers and a hub of Swiss culture.

Green Globe recently recertified Mövenpick Hotel Zürich Regensdorf awarding the property a high compliance score of 82%.

Energy conservation and community projects are key areas of importance within the hotel’s sustainability management plan. Energy usage is routinely monitored and heating controlled on a daily basis in accordance with seasonal changes. By following this procedure, energy costs were reduced by 16% from 2017 to 2018.

The completely redesigned hotel has a large congress hall and 19 innovatively designed meeting rooms featuring state of the art technical equipment. New LCD projectors have been installed in the Congress Hall and another meeting room in line with the property’s energy saving strategy. The new projectors use the latest energy efficient liquid crystal display technology, which significantly reduce running costs. Waste generation will also decrease as replacement bulbs will no longer need to be purchased or disposed of. Other meeting rooms will follow suit in future.

Mövenpick Hotel Zürich Regensdorf participates in ongoing Shine Projects, an environmental and community engagement program initiated by Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts. This year the hotel contributed CHF 1500.00 toward the sponsorship of the Cure Childhood Cancer Run. Also, just last weekend, on the Second of December, a fundraising event was held for the Theodora Children’s Charity, an organization that was founded to help sick and disabled children requiring hospitalization for extended periods of time. Thirty-five children were invited to the hotel to bake cookies and other fun tasty treats with all proceeds donated to Theodora.
