Italian Exhibition Group: Board of Directors approves half-yearly financial report

August 27, 2019 by PressEditor

The Board of Directors of Italian Exhibition Group S.p.A (IEG), a company listed last June on the Milan Stock Exchange organized and managed by Borsa Italiana S.p.A., approved, on today’s date, the half-yearly financial report as at June 30, 2019.

Main consolidated results in the first half of 2019

The total revenues of the IEG Group amounted to € 99,932 thousand, growth of 29.3% over the € 77,309 thousand in the same period of the previous year. This result augments the significant growth already recorded at the end of 2018 (+ 22% over the previous year) and confirms IEG’s ability in development and integration projects.

EBITDA1 , following the application of IFRS 16, which generated a positive effect of approximately € 1.9 million, and EBIT reached € 26,575 thousand and € 17,691 thousand respectively, growth compared to the 2018 values, which did not reflect the effects of IFRS 16, which stood at € 17,039 and € 11,801 thousand respectively.

Without taking account of the effects of the aforementioned accounting standard, EBITDA1 and EBIT therefore recorded increases of + 44.8% and + 49.6% compared to the same period in the previous year, also confirming the further strengthening in the ability to manage operating costs and stabilise the efficiencies already achieved in the second part of the previous year.

The Group’s net result, albeit feeling the effects of the higher financial management expenses due to the application of IFRS 16 amounting to € 330 thousand and other expenses connected to the figurative payables from put options, stood at € 10,679 thousand, growth of 40.2% compared to € 7,618 thousand in the first half of 2018.

As at June 30th, 2019, the net cash financial situation, therefore without taking into account the higher payables of roughly € 32 million as a result of IFRS 16, financial payables for any future put options of € 15.8 million and derivative financial instruments for € 5.9 million, totalled € 66.5 million compared to € 66.9 million as at June 30th, 2018 and € 49.2 million as at December 31st, 2018. The latter increase is due primarily to the changes in Net Working Capital resulting from the seasonal cycle (around € 4.6 million), investments (€ 5.7 million) and the distribution of ordinary dividends which took place in May (€ 5.6 million).

The consolidated shareholders’ equity as at June 30th, 2019 came to approximately € 105.2 million, compared to € 102.5 million as at December 31st, 2018.

Results by business segment in the first half of 2019

The significant growth in revenues in the period derives from the positive results achieved by each business line and the increase of roughly € 22.6 million compared to the same period of the previous year is due to both the purely organic growth (up € 7.4 million equal to + 9.6%) and the change in the scope of consolidation. The latter takes account, for an amount of around € 15.2 million, of the revenues resulting from the acquisitions of stand fitting activities carried out last year (FB international in the US in March and Prostand – Colorcom in Italy in September 2018) and the arithmetic sum (with balance close to zero) of multiyear events or held in a different half from that of the previous year.

In particular, the Group’s “core business”, comprised of the direct organisation of trade show events, accounted for 53.7% of total revenues during the half, and recorded an increase of 6.6% compared to the previous year. This increase is attributable to the main leading products in the “Food & Beverage” and “Jewellery & Fashion” categories. The seasonal nature of the trade show calendar has a negligible impact and relates, in particular, to the Koinè event (biennial event in odd years) in February 2019.

The Convention Events business line, which accounts for 7.6% of total Group revenues, recorded an increase of 26% (up € 1.6 million) compared to the first half of 2018, thanks to the holding of larger conventions in terms of the number of participants, convention areas used and additional services required.

Revenues from related services, such as stand fitting activities, catering and cleaning, account for 35.2% of the Group’s total revenues and essentially doubled compared to the first half of the previous year (+97.8%). The growth in the revenues from catering services, driven by the development of trade show events organised and the management of new activities, was augmented by the higher revenues recorded in the event preparation services segment as a result of the already mentioned acquisitions.

Business outlook

The results achieved by IEG in the first half, although it should be noted that trade show and convention event activities are highly seasonal in nature, with the subsequent difficulty in comparing the various quarters of the year with one another, confirm the success of the organisational and management decisions made by the Company and allow the management to confirm the planned consolidation and growth objectives.

The Corporate Officer responsible for drafting the company’s accounting documents, Roberto Bondioli, hereby declares, pursuant to paragraph 2 of art. 154-bis of the Consolidated Law on Finance, that the accounting information contained in this press release corresponds to the documentary results, the books and the accounting records.

The Half-yearly Financial Report as at June 30th, 2019, approved on today’s date by the Board of Directors of Italian Exhibition Group S.p.A., will be made available, together with the Independent Auditors’ Report, on the Company’s website www.iegexpo.it in the Investor Relations Section, as well as in the company’s registered office and on the authorised storage system 1INFO Storage available at the address www.1info.it managed by 1INFO – Computershare S.p.A. – Via Lorenzo Mascheroni 19, 20145 Milan.

The results of the first half of 2019 will be illustrated in a conference call with the Financial Community set for today at 17.30 (CET). The presentation will be available in the Investor Relations section of the website www.iegexpo.it from 17.15.

Italian debutants showcase fresh ideas at WTM London 2019

August 22, 2019 by PressEditor

Six exhibitors from Italy will make their debut at WTM London 2019 – the event where ideas arrive – showcasing new destinations, cutting-edge technology and fresh touring inspiration.

They include Heart of the Dolomites – a new tourist board promoting digital-detox holidays in the mountainous region of northern Italy – and inbound tour operator TUO Travel, which plans to unveil new partnerships and excursions at WTM.

Other new Italian exhibitors are Air Home Restaurant, a start-up peer-to-peer website, offering the chance to book social foodie experiences around the world, such as cooking shows, tastings and meals.

Accommodation specialists exhibiting for the first time are Espogest, a Rome-based hotel company, and Hotel Carlyle – a stylish, modern four-star property which is a 15-minute walk from the centre of Milan.

The sixth new exhibitor is Grimaldi Euromed, which operates passenger ferries between Greece and Italy and across the Mediterranean. Part of the Grimaldi Group – a multinational logistics giant – the ferry firm has installed ‘mega batteries’ on two cruise ferries which means there will be zero emissions during short port visits.

Emma Taveri – Chief Executive of Destination Makers, which manages marketing for Heart of the Dolomites – said the region features “amazing” mountains and year-round activities that range from the chilled – such as mountaintop sunrise yoga – to adrenaline sports, including zip-lining, snow-sports and mountain climbing.

“We are designing a completely new way of experiencing our mountains with no technology and total mind-and-soul recharging experiences,” she said.

“We are exhibiting at WTM London to position Heart of the Dolomites as the ideal destination to ‘recharge in nature’, both in winter and summer.”

Reflecting WTM London’s ethos of generating new ideas and fresh thinking, the tourist board recently ran a contest called Recharge in Nature which received more than 19,000 applications from across the world.

Carlo Nocella, TUO Travel’s Sales and Product Manager, said the company is busy working on announcements for WTM London, such as partnerships with luxury hotels and resorts.

The DMC will also unveil luxury private tours of Italy featuring accommodation in prestigious five-star city-centre hotels, plus upmarket excursions such as helicopter trips, luxury boat trips on Italy’s lakes, and exclusive access to art museums and secret gardens.

Furthermore, TUO Travel is developing products in scenic southern regions such as Calabria – the ‘toe’ of Italy – and Apulia, which forms the ‘heel’ of Italy’s ‘boot’.

Echoing WTM London’s mantra of ‘Ideas Arrive Here’, he said: “The aim during WTM is to meet the most important luxury travel professionals, travel designers and tour operators.

“WTM London is a formidable marketplace. It is the key event of the year where TUO Travel can showcase its best opportunities and products that will create the perfect Italian trip.”

Simon Press, Exhibition Director WTM London, added: “Italian exhibitors have long been great supporters of WTM, and it is encouraging to see so many new companies joining us from Italy, ranging from innovative start-ups to long-established multinationals that are leading the way in sustainability.

“They recognise how WTM can provide an unparalleled platform to publicise their products to new and existing business partners from around the world.”

Seychelles shines in Italy as top Italian journalists visit the destination

July 4, 2019 by PressEditor

The Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) through its representations in Italy organized a successful press trip for seven top Italian journalists in June 2019.

The aim of the press trip was to allow the Italian press to discover the destination and increase the destination visibility on the Italian national media.

Spearheading the project, the STB Director for Italy, Turkey, Greece and the Mediterranean, Ms. Monette Rose accompanied the group which consisted of three trade journalists – Mr. Andrea Lovelock for L’Agenzia di Viaggi, Ms. Eleonora David for Turismo & Attualità, Ms. Marina Firrao for Travel Quotidiano – and four consumer journalists – Ms. Sara Ficocelli for La Repubblica, Ms. Daniela Giammusso for Ansa, Ms. Livia Fabietti for La Stampa and Ms. Veronica Mazza for Cosmopolitan.

The visit was centered on the three main islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue and was made possible with the support of hotel establishment partners namely La Digue Island Lodge, Paradise Sun Hotel and Constance Hotels.

During their visit to Seychelles, the Italian press group had the opportunity to experience the beauty of the islands including its pristine beaches, the natural lush setting and specially the Creole culture and people.

They were captured by the exotic life on La Digue where they learned how to cook typical Creole dishes in the traditional way with one of the Chefs of the Digue Island Lodge Resort. They also discovered the multiple trekking paths, explored secluded beaches like Anse Coco with a professional guide, and enjoyed a relaxing time in the turquoise waters of Anse Source D’Argent.

While their stay on Praslin the group was hosted with five star services and treatments by Paradise Sun Hotel. Their Seychelles second biggest Island gave them an opportunity to visit the iconic Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette and the UNESCO site of Vallée De Mai, as they left impressed by the beauty of the island’s nature.

They ended their Seychelles adventure on Mahé, where they discovered the Port Launay Marine Park as they were pampered by Constance Resort’s services, containing a Balinese massage in the U Spa and the great gastronomy offered by the different restaurants.

The seven media personalities provided Seychelles with intensive visibility on their social networks channels while in the archipelago.

Speaking about the media trip, the STB representative for Italy, Turkey, Greece and the Mediterranean, Ms. Monette Rose mentioned the importance of remaining visible on the Italian market in order to reach consumers, travel trade, and boost visibility for the summer season onwards.

“It has been a great experience for all of them and left the archipelago impressed by its beauty and above all the people. This kind of projects are very important to market the destination – it offers journalists the chance to gain first-hand experience of a place or a particular situation or product, in order to gain great visibility”, said Monette Rose.

Following their visit, more coverage about Seychelles as a destination is expected to be released in the Italian media.

Italian exhibition group launches key words for the 2020 tourism industry

April 15, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Active food and wine tourism, the quality of life, the search for beauty and creativity: the combination of ingredients on which tourists increasingly base their choice of vacation will be at the center of the 2019 expo showcase of TTG Experience, SIA Hospitality Design e SUN Beach&Outdoor Style, the three leading expos dedicated to the tourism chain – respectively focused on vacations, the hospitality sector and that of outdoors and beaches – organized by Italian Exhibition Group, being held from Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th October 2019 at Rimini Expo Centre.

The tourist flow scene confirms positive signs from Italy: in the first eleven months of 2018, with 208.5 million nights’ stay by foreign tourists in accommodation facilities (+1.8%), Italy is in second place in Europe, ahead of France (134.7 nights, +5.7%) and behind Spain (287.8 million, -1.6%). In this context, the three expos, with an unequalled offer for the expo sector, will respond precisely to the tourist trade’s requirements.

TTG Travel Experience

The 56th edition of TTG, is a national and international reference point for the Italian offer for tourists and Italian tourism abroad. The most important B2B tourist expo and the one most attended by tourism professionals will host 130 destinations, in a layout divided into three areas – The World, Global Village and Italy – conceived to highlight all the latest in vacation products.

TTG Travel Experience 2019, with two special projects, will intercept the trends that increasingly influence tourists’ choice of destination: the interest in wine and food and that for active vacations.

223 million euros were spent in 2017 by foreign visitors to Italy on food and wine, 70% more than spending in 2013. With the Eatxperience project at TTG Travel Experience 2019, an entire hall will be dedicated to food and wine tourism with a format conceived precisely for trade members: food service in hotels is also among the opportunities to include in travel proposals.

On the other hand, with a high visual impact, the special Be Active project will feature proposals, opportunities and trends for vacations in Italy, where in 2016 18.6% of the tourists indicated sport as the motivation for their vacation.

SIA Hospitality Design

The expo that is a national reference point for the hospitality sector, SIA Hospitality Design, at its 68th edition, boosts its format linked with design and Italian-made products, addressing three issues that are particularly topical for the hospitality sector: Design (design for hospitality will not only be the first focus of SIA, but also the leitmotif of the entire expo); Water: (bathrooms, wellness and swimming pools, as well as services, technology, products, cosmetics and wellness treatment); Taste (the most important food service moments for accommodation facilities: breakfasts and aperitifs). Each project will have a dedicated arena involving professionals, an exhibition and expo areas.

Sun Beach & Outdoor Style

For decades, the b2b expo that is a reference point for the outdoor, beach facility and campsite worlds, SUN Beach&Outdoor Style, at its 37th edition, has focused on two macro sectors: the beach facility world and the campsite and village show world.

Contests are confirmed, in collaboration with Mondo Balneare, Best Beach Bar, Best Design Beach and Best Italian Beach, to award prizes respectively to the best beach facilities from the point of view of food & beverage, architecture and tradition. All the new products and services on the start-up front will be featured at SUNNext, the space dedicated to innovation, in collaboration with Mondo Balneare and CNA Emila-Romagna.

Date set for the opening of the Vatican secret archives

April 12, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

On March 2, 2020, Pope Francis will open the secret archives of the pontificate of Pius XII on the Second World War.

The announcement during the audience to the staff of the Vatican secret archives was, “The Church is not afraid of history, indeed it loves it.” And on the reading of the Pontificate, he said: “In the criticisms against Pius XII prejudices and exaggerations.”

Pope Bergoglio’s Tweet from March 4, 2019 said, “I decided that the opening of the Vatican Archives for the Pontificate of Pius XII will take place on March 2, 2020, exactly one year after the eightieth anniversary of Eugene Pacelli’s election to the Soglio di Pietro.”

Thus the Pope in the audience with his superiors, as well as the employees and collaborators of the Vatican Secret Archives, whose “constant and not slight commitment,” said Francesco, “allows me today, in memory of that significant anniversary, to announce my decision  to open to the consultation of researchers the archival documentation pertaining to the Pontificate of Pius XII, until his death, which took place at Castel Gandolfo on 9 October 1958.

Regarding the Pope’s decision, “I assume this decision,” the Pontiff explained, “having heard the opinion of my closest collaborators, with a serene and confident spirit, confident that the serious and objective historical research will be able to evaluate in its right light, with appropriate criticism, moments of exaltation of that Pontiff and, undoubtedly also moments of grave difficulties, of tormented decisions, of human and Christian prudence, which to some may have seemed reticence, and which instead were attempts, humanly even much fought, to keep on, in the periods of more thick darkness and cruelty, the flame of humanitarian initiatives, of hidden but active diplomacy, of hope in possible good hearts’ openings.

“The Church is not afraid of history, on the contrary, she loves it.”

In explaining his decision, the Pope recalled that “the Church is not afraid of history; indeed, loves it and would like to love it more and better, as God loves it! So, with the same confidence as my predecessors, I open and entrust this documentary heritage to researchers.”

“While I thank you again for the work accomplished,” he added to the staff of the Vatican Secret Archives, “I wish you to continue the commitment to assist researchers – scientific and material assistance – and also in the publication of Pacellian sources that will be deemed important, as you have already been doing for some years.”

The Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI) is good to reconstruct the role of the Church during the Holocaust, stating, “We welcome with great appreciation the decision of Pope Bergoglio to open the secret archive related to the figure of Pius XII. It is positive that we want to make this opening, because it will give way to all those that deal with research to access material of unpublished interest to be able to reconstruct with even more clarity the position of the Church also in the period of the Shoah.”

This was underlined by the president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, Noemi Di Segni, and also the president of the Jewish community of Rome, Ruth Dureghello, who commented on the news: “The hope now is that we can clarify the role played by Pius XII during the Second World War.”

“Unfortunately we will have to wait for 2020, in a year and a half,” he underlined. “Better late than never. It is positive news from which we hope to obtain clarity on that historical period and on the role played by the Pope.”

Genting Cruise Lines welcomed the third member of its Dream Cruises’ fleet with the christening and inaugural homeport deployment of Explorer Dream in Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal. Explorer Dream is the first newly-launched cruise ship of the post-recalibration period in the Chinese cruise industry and her arrival also marks Dream Cruises’ debut in Eastern China, with the cruise liner purposely-built and recently renovated for the Asian and Chinese luxury market. Leveraging on the deployment of Explorer Dream, Dream Cruises’ first 200,000-tonne Global Class ship, set to debut in 2021, will also celebrate her inaugural deployment in Shanghai as the largest cruise ship to homeport in the Asia-Pacific.

The christening ceremony featured Ms. Grace Chen, the godmother of Explorer Dream and one of the most influential fashion innovators in China. The innovative christening was activated by her magic wand of dreams and aspirations and the spirit of exploration was symbolised by a majestic unicorn that led the iconic Dream Cruises’ mermaid out of the ocean and into a new realm, where she will embark on the quest to discover new horizons across the seas. With the traditional breaking of the champagne bottle against the bow of the ship, Explorer Dream officially begins her journey with Dream Cruises.

“Dream Cruises is the most recognized cruise brand in Southern China due to World Dream being positioned in the dual homeports of Guangzhou and Hong Kong. However, as we all know, the Eastern and North Chinese market is five times larger than the south and Dream Cruises will be building two 204,000 gross ton “Global Class” ships to be launched starting early 2021 in Shanghai and Tianjin to accommodate this market. These two ships, being built in our own shipyards Germany, are also designed to be the most advanced and intelligent cruise ships ever to be constructed,” said Mr. Hui Lim, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Genting Hong Kong. said, “In order to prepare the foundations and increase Dream Cruises’ brand awareness in East and North China, we are pleased today to welcome “Explorer Dream” in Shanghai as the third ship in our Dream Cruises fleet.”

Explorer Dream is the second cruise ship of Genting Cruise Lines to homeport in Shanghai, made possible by the tremendous support of the Shanghai Baoshan District Government. Mr. Su Ping, Vice Magistrate of Shanghai Baoshan District Government said, “In July 2017, Genting Cruise Lines launched the Golden Sea Route 7-night itinerary in Shanghai, which garnered the Best Itinerary Award during the Shanghai Cruise Tourism Festival. In October 2018, a strategic Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Baoshan District Government and Genting Cruise Lines to forge a new partnership. Now, the inaugural arrival of Explorer Dream, the newest member of Dream Cruises in Shanghai, will bring forth distinctive and premium cruise travel products to propel the optimal development of the cruise industry in China.”

After the inaugural ceremony, Grace Chen presented a spectacular fashion show at sea aboard the ship. Eighteen models showcased her Voyage collection and walked the runway on the Palace Pool Deck, where guests enjoyed a visual feast inspired by the spirit of exploration and discovery, both of which are the brand essence of Dream Cruises.

Since its launch two years ago, Dream Cruises has garnered numerous accolades for its two cruise ships, Genting Dream which debuted in 2016 and World Dream in 2017, including Star Performer Top Ten Ratings in the Large Resort Category, “Most Popular Family Cruise Brand in China 2018” by Global Times, Top 5 Cruise Lines in the Large/Medium sized cruise ship category by Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List and more.

Built with German craftsmanship, Explorer Dream measures 268 meters in length and 32 meters in width. The signature, luxury “ship within a ship” enclave of Dream Cruises – The Palace, provides an unprecedented “True Asian Luxury” experience to discerning travelers in China and Asia, boasting an industry leading staff to guest ratio, a majority of its suites at over 40 square meters, as well as Proprietary Butler Training endorsed by affiliated company Crystal Cruises – The World’s Most Awarded Luxury Cruise Line.

A generous variety of culinary options will also be available to cater for every taste – from inspired Asian flavours to exquisite Western delicacies. Acclaimed Australian Chef Mark Best will extend his influence on to Explorer Dream with his Seafood Grill by Mark Best serving up the ocean’s bounty in a spectacular al fresco setting. Signature Dream dining favorites will also take pride of place on the new ship including Umi Uma for Japanese delights, Silk Road for traditional Chinese fare, Blue Lagoon for Southeast Asian comfort food and Palm Court for informal refreshments and breath-taking views. For adventurous foodies, the all new Mozzarella Ristorante e Pizzeria will tantalize with a modern fusion of classic Italian dishes and pizzas with a Japanese twist.

Guests of Explorer Dream can also enjoy thematic programs on their journeys at sea including “The Connoisseurs Circle” bespoke enrichment program, featuring inspirational talks and events that are especially curated for guests of The Palace, such as a fashion talk by Grace Chen, the godmother of Explorer Dream.

As the fastest cruise ship in Asia, Explorer Dream offers a great variety of itineraries and flexibility. Sailings from Shanghai homeport will take guests on cruises to popular destinations in Japan that range from 3-night to 6-night itineraries, such as the 3-night cruises to Kyoto, Osaka or Kobe, or the 2-night round-trip cruise to Okinawa. In the month of April, when cherry blossoms in Japan are in bloom, guests can enjoy the dazzling floral display on shore, complemented by authentic Japanese experiences on the cruise, such as specialty dishes featuring Japanese Wagyu beef and pork, tuna cutting performances, Yukata trials, poolside festivals and more.

Starting from 1 July, Explorer Dream will begin her homeport deployment in Tianjin with more summer cruise options for family travelers, who will enjoy the renowned stage productions of Kaixin Mahua at sea. Taking the first step to evolve Dream Cruises into “Asia’s Global Cruise Line” by sailing outside Asian waters, in October 2019, Explorer Dream will homeport in Sydney and Auckland where she will embark on a variety of seven-night weekly itineraries to “Down Under” destinations.
