Centara Transforms Maldives Resort Rooftops into Sustainable Solar Power Source

December 17, 2019 by PressEditor

Rooftop solar conversion at Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa Maldives aims to deliver cleaner, more sustainable future

Centara Hotels & Resorts, Thailand’s leading hotel operator, has transformed one of its Maldives resorts into a self-sustaining solar energy generator after the adoption of a rooftop solar panel system that will begin producing electricity this month.

Following the completion of solar panel installation atop the roofs of all of the resort’s main structures, Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa Maldives will generate enough power to supply close to 40% of the its energy needs, resulting in an annual energy savings equivalent to 307,000 kilowatt hours (kwh), or about 83,000 litres of diesel fuel.

“The rooftop solar conversion is one of Centara’s most ambitious sustainability projects undertaken at a single property,” said David Good, Centara’s VP Operations. “The benefits to the environment made it a compelling choice, and we will be looking at options for expanding the solar program to other properties going forward.”

Centara’s long-term commitment to sustainable business practices is reflected in a number of initiatives aimed at reducing the company’s environmental impact in the communities where it operates. Its ongoing engagement with EarthCheck, the world’s leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for travel and tourism, continues to yield consequential improvements in key sustainability metrics. To date, 15 Centara hotels and resorts have achieved EarthCheck certification and another four properties are enrolled in EarthCheck’s Evaluate Plus program, leading to significant reductions in carbon footprints and greenhouse gas emissions across a number of Centara’s certified properties.

Most recently, the company’s leadership in environmental sustainability was recognised for the second consecutive year by the Stock Exchange of Thailand, which awarded Centara Hotels & Resorts (CENTEL) its “Thailand Sustainability Investment 2019 (THSI)” designation, given annually in recognition of listed companies that operate with responsibility across Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects.

Centara Unveils New Brand Ad Campaign “Centara – The Place to Be.”

October 28, 2019 by PressEditor

Campaign connects Thai family values with unique guest experiences

Centara Hotels & Resorts, Thailand’s leading hotel operator, is launching a new brand advertising campaign this week in line with its revitalized brand essence, “Centara – The Place to Be.” The new campaign is aimed at consumers and travel industry professionals in Thailand and around the world and will appear in a variety of traditional and digital media formats along with the company’s social media, mobile and online platforms.

“Centara’s defining qualities are the unique combination of Thainess and Family Values,” said Thirayuth Chirathivat, Centara CEO. “They form the backbone of all things Centara, from our company’s heritage and service style through to our product and design, but most importantly, to the distinctive guest experiences we provide for our customers. We believe the new campaign captures the essence of that in a compelling and memorable way.”

The new campaign, represents the culmination of an extensive internal review and research process that helped identify the unique and authentic essence, and refine the positioning, of Centara Hotels & Resorts, both from a customer point of view – be that a guest, trade or business partner – and in the eyes of its people. That process brought clarity by identifying the Thai family values of Belonging, Caring and Sharing as the core qualities that define the Centara experience. Through these values, places are created, and experiences inspired, that evoke a true sense of belonging.  Whether as a place to enjoy a family holiday or a romantic break, to do business, to wine and dine, celebrate, build a career or form a business partnership, Centara is “The Place to Be”. And whilst this message will serve as the theme of Centara’s upcoming advertising and communications, the essence and tagline which are so genuine to Centara, will long outlive the campaign.

“We wanted to align our brand positioning to truly reflect the authentic characteristics of Centara’s DNA. The new campaign celebrates the shared values that connect our brand and our customers in a way that is upbeat and relatable. It was important that we created a message that is very simple and memorable yet also rich in meaning. ‘The Place to Be’ is clearly rooted in the philosophy and heritage of our company, our warm, genuine and personal service approach, and the continued focus we place on creating environments where people want to be, and in which they feel they truly belong.” commented Tom Thrussell, Centara VP – Brand, Marketing & Digital.

Along with the new advertising campaign, the company is introducing newly refreshed visual identities for two of its core brands – the upper upscale Centara Grand, and the upscale Centara. The brand update serves to create distinction between the two hotel brands and the group’s corporate masterbrand, as well as to rejuvenate and better reflect their brand personalities. The new identities are being progressively rolled out to all Centara Grand and Centara properties in Thailand and worldwide. Centara also plans to announce its first luxury brand in early 2020.

Here We Come, Osaka! Centara Signs Historic Deal for First Japanese Property

October 2, 2019 by PressEditor

Centara Grand Hotel Osaka, a 5-star property with 515 keys, will open in mid-2023 in a new 34-storey tower

Centara Hotels & Resorts, Thailand’s leading hotel operator, together with Taisei Corporation and Kanden Realty & Development, announced a landmark agreement to bring the Centara brand to Japan. The three companies signed an Investor Agreement for Centara Grand Hotel Osaka, an upper upscale property with 515 keys that will occupy a gleaming 34-storey tower on a prime site in Osaka’s Namba district, the centre of leisure tourism for the city and the wider Kansai region. Centara’s first property in Japan is scheduled to open in mid-2023.

The investment partnership between Centara Hotels & Resorts, Taisei Corporation and Kanden Realty & Development marks Centara’s entry into one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. Osaka is a key gateway city and Japan’s third largest city, with a population of 2.7 million. Additionally, it is one of the leading Japanese destinations for international visitors, second only to Tokyo, and is considered the cultural heart of the nation. Along with popular attractions such as Universal Studios Japan and the city’s proximity to Kyoto, Kobe and Nara, Osaka is expected to see a further boost in tourism when the city hosts the World Expo in 2025.

“Extending the Centara footprint to Japan has been a long-term strategic objective for the company, and this is a major milestone for the Centara brand as we have successfully added the 14th country to our portfolio,” said Thirayuth Chirathivat, Centara’s CEO. “This an exciting opportunity to partner with Taisei and Kanden Realty & Development, whose outstanding track records have earned leading positions in construction and property development. We are looking forward to making Centara’s debut and ongoing development in other Japanese cities a great success.”

“This project is in Namba, an important and bustling district of Osaka and a place of international exchange. It is directly connected to Kansai International airport, making it one Japan’s major gateway cities to the world” said Senior Managing Executive Officer, Taisei Corporation, Katsuyuki Kanai. “It is really a significant milestone both to Japan and to Taisei that Centara, representing Thailand in tourism and hospitality, has embarked on this venture in Namba, the perfect location in Japan for the development of an upper upscale hotel.”

“As a major Property Development Company based in Osaka, we are honoured to play an important role in this joint investment project to develop Centara Grand Hotel Osaka with such a significant and established Thai partner, Centara Hotels & Resorts, and with Taisei Corporation, who has a long and proven record of success,” stated Managing Executive Officer, Kanden Realty & Development, Munetaka Isoda. “We are committed to working with you in making every effort to ensure the success of this project and we wish you all a very warm welcome to Osaka.”

The newly built hotel will occupy a stunning new 34-storey tower overlooking Namba Parks, with 360-degree views of the city. The top floors will include a lounge along with customisable space for meetings and events, plus a rooftop restaurant sky bar providing panoramic views in every direction.

Facilities will include award winning Spa Cenvaree, a fully equipped fitness centre, a diverse selection of restaurants and banquet facilities. And the hotel’s spacious lobby will welcome guests with touches of Thai and Japanese style and ambience.

The hotel location puts guests at the doorstep of some of Osaka’s leading entertainment, shopping and cultural attractions, popular with visitors and locals alike. A few steps away is Namba Parks, an architectural marvel and the city’s most distinctive mall, complete with a massive rooftop garden with cliffs, ponds, streams and waterfalls, making it a must-see for tourists. The Namba area, also known as Minami, is home to countless restaurants and bars, shopping venues, an electronics district, as well as one of Osaka’s most revered Shinto shrines.

The addition of its first property in Japan is further proof of Centara’s expansion strategy, which calls for doubling the number of properties under its management by 2022. Centara’s expertise, combined with the local market presence and development experience of Taisei Corporation and Kanden Realty & Development, are sure to boost Centara’s Japan market launch toward long-term success.

Centara and KMA Group Sign HMA for a New Myanmar Resort

September 20, 2019 by PressEditor

Centara Hotels & Resorts, Thailand’s leading hotel operator, and KMA Group, a subsidiary of Kaung Myanmar Aung (KMA) Group of Companies, signed a Hotel Management Agreement (HMA) in Bangkok for the management of a new hotel in Myanmar owned by KMA. The property, located at one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, will be rebranded and managed under the Centara brand beginning this year.

The 95-key Centara KMA Resort Inle Lake, located on the shores of Inle Lake in central Myanmar, is scheduled to open during the fourth quarter of 2019.

We are very excited to move forward in partnership with KMA Hotels, one of the leading hospitality companies in Myanmar,” said Thirayuth Chirathivat, Chief Executive Officer of Centara Hotels & Resorts. “This agreement enables Centara to establish a significant foothold in a country with tremendous growth potential for tourism, and work with the highly experienced management team at KMA.”

KMA Group of Companies is a privately held company founded and led by Chairman                      U Khin Maung Aye, Chairman of CB Bank. The Group comprises 15 corporate entities operating across a diverse range of industries.

“We are delighted to have Centara’s strong brand and international management expertise coming on board at the new resort property,” said Khin Maung Aye, Chairman of KMA Group. “I am confident that Centara’s presence in Myanmar will contribute toward realising the country’s full potential for tourism growth while ensuring continued success for KMA’s hotel and tourism businesses.”

Centara signed a MOU with KMA earlier this year for the management of six hotels and resorts in Myanmar. This new management agreement represents the completion of the deal for the first of these properties with the others set to follow imminently.

Myanmar is Southeast Asia’s second-largest country and boasts one of the fastest-growing economies in the region. Myanmar’s projected tourism growth rate of 8.5% annually through 2025 puts the country at the top of the world’s fastest-growing tourism markets.

The addition of a new Myanmar property is further evidence of Centara’s continued expansion strategy, and the combination of Centara’s expertise and KMA Group’s mastery of development are sure to elevate Myanmar’s hospitality sector.

Hua Hin municipality and Centara join forces to boost Hua Hin’s environmental sustainability efforts

August 7, 2019 by PressEditor

As part of its commitment to Hua Hin’s environmental sustainability and development, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin recently welcomed Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wuthikul to take part in its latest initiative, POP, aimed at promoting environmental awareness in Hua Hin.

Centara Hotels & Resorts marked this year’s 2019 World Environment Day with a sculpted sea creature-cum-trash-bin named POP, short for “Plastic Only, Please”, installed along the iconic resort’s beachfront on 1st June to raise awareness of the scourge of plastic waste. Each time the plastic-hungry sea creature fills up with collected plastic trash, the hotel’s waste management team removes POP to empty and weigh the contents and prepare the trash for sorting and delivery to local recycling facilities.

Thanks to the amazing results achieved during the 50-day visit of this larger-than-life, fish-shaped trash can, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin Director of Quality Assurance, Duenphen Pengkasem, led the effort to extend the initiative and keep the POP display. This extension was successfully achieved owing to great support from Mayor Nopporn and his Hua Hin Municipality Office team, which has been actively promoting environmental awareness in the community and supporting greater responsibility and care for the environment of this resort town.

Rather than creating more plastic garbage that pollutes the environment and adds to the burden of nearby landfills, these plastic-eating creatures are providing a first-line waste management filter, diverting reusable plastic materials to be recycled into new products instead of going straight to the garbage.

Eliminating single-use plastic items is a key priority of the 2019 Centara Earth Care programme, a company-wide initiative aimed at encouraging hotel guests and tourists to be proactive about energy saving and sustainable environmental tourism.

Centara’s sustainability plan covers five types of single-use plastic items, including drinking straws, laundry bags, take-away food containers, fitness centre and poolside plastic bottles, and plastic guest room amenities. They are being replaced with items made from materials designed to minimise environmental impact. The single-use plastic straws being eliminated take up to 200 years to decompose; the new bio-straws replacing them decompose within six months.

Centara Expands in Thailand with launch of new beachfront hotel in Sriracha

July 8, 2019 by PressEditor

Centara Hotels & Resorts, Thailand’s leading hotel operator, has added a new destination to its Thailand collection with the launch of a beautifully designed seafront hotel facing the Gulf of Thailand in Sriracha.

The newly built Centara Sonrisa Residences & Suites Sriracha is the first Centara hotel in Sriracha. The beachfront location along the coast of Thailand’s eastern seaboard in Chonburi Province is 90 minutes by car from Bangkok.

2-bedroom Suite

The striking design of Centara Sonrisa Residences & Suites Sriracha, with its cool whites and hues of blue throughout, evokes the waters of the Gulf of Thailand in Sriracha, once a traditional Thai fishing village that retains an old-world charm and a slower pace of daily life, making it perfect for a relaxing couples getaway and a fun family holiday destination as well.

Deluxe Room

The 145 units offer an array of accommodation options, beginning with Superior, Deluxe and Deluxe Seaview guestrooms, which are ideal for two adults. Family Residences and Two-bedroom Suites can comfortably accommodate families of four to five and are an excellent choice for extended stays, thanks to spacious layouts as large as 64 square metres. The residences are equipped with kitchenettes and furnished with children’s bunk beds. All accommodation options come with a balcony, free Wi-Fi and Smart TVs.

Casual, classic and convenient dining options are available day and night, along with in-room dining served 24 hours a day. The crisply modern and laid-back restaurant UMI commands brilliant views from its sky deck perch. The UMI menu offers traditional Japanese cuisine including Ramen and Teppanyaki dishes, along with creative interpretations of Thai and European favourites.

Deluxe Seaview

In the lobby is Zing, a casual delicatessen and café that serves its signature Taiwanese-style Bubble tea and Matcha green tea throughout the day, along with a full menu of hot beverages, pastries and bakery items. Zing is a great spot for a relaxed, no-hassle lunch, with an excellent selection of sandwiches, snacks and fresh salads. Light bites, refreshments and cocktails are served poolside at Tropicana Pool Bar and at nearby Sky Bar.

Centara Sonrisa Residences & Suites Sriracha is an inspired choice for off-site company meetings and events. Flexible multi-purpose space can be tailored to fit a variety of setups and layout formats, and Centara’s attentive, professional staff are on hand ensure a smooth experience all around.

The seafront Sriracha location is an ideal starting point for enjoying the area’s many attractions. Pattaya’s city centre is 45 minutes away by car, and the surrounding region is home to some of Thailand’s finest golf courses. Beach and coastal attractions, including Bang Saen Beach and Bang Phra Reservoir, are just a short drive from Sriracha.

Family Residence

“It is especially exciting to extend Centara’s footprint to a new Thai destination,” said Thirayuth Chirathivat, Chief Executive Officer, Centara Hotels and Resorts. “Sriracha continues to develop as a destination for tourism and business travel, and I am confident that the hotel’s prime beachfront location, excellent facilities and spectacular design will be especially pleasing to our guests.”

Dr. Nutsarai Chaijindaratana of Smile Condo (2011) Co., LTD, the hotel’s owner, commented, “We are delighted to see our vision transformed into a finished hotel now welcoming its first guests. Our partnership with Centara has been a positive experience throughout the development phase, and we look forward to seeing the hotel contribute to Sriracha’s success in the years ahead.”
