Steven Spata Receives InterRegs/SAE Standards And Regulations Award

FAREHAM, England, Feb. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Steven Spata of the Ambulance Manufacturers Division at the Association for the Work Truck Industry (NTEA) in the United States has received the 2018 Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)/InterRegs Standards & Regulations Award for his longstanding efforts in furthering the safety and quality of commercial vehicles.

The award recognizes a practicing engineer who has provided significant contributions to vehicle standards, regulations or conformity assessment systems for improved safety or reduced emissions. UK-based InterRegs, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, has been promoting vehicle safety through the award since 2000.

A resident of Berkley, Michigan, Spata was recognized at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Government Industry Meeting in Washington D.C. earlier this year. InterRegs’ Director David Immanuel and SAE 2017 President Doug Patton presented the engraved award to Spata at the meeting.

“Just being nominated for the SAE/InterRegs Standards & Regulations Award is a massive honor, let alone being selected,” said Spata, who is NTEA’s technical assistance director. “It’s a career highlight for me to accept it on behalf of a fantastic team of dedicated professionals that have all contributed to the success of our ambulance occupant safety research program over the last decade.

“Moving the results of this research into practice through SAE and our industry- government partnership has been a very rewarding experience,” he added. “It is a great privilege to work in a forum to help improve the safety of our nation’s first responders and the patients they transport. I am very grateful for the recognition of this work and the ability that my organization has provided for me to take part in it.”

Spata holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. He recently represented NTEA in a comprehensive research program to improve ambulance crash safety and is a member of several different ambulance standards development committees.  His research and work over the years have shown a commitment to improving commercial vehicle safety and regulations compliance.
