San Francisco’s Best Kept Secret – Dining Solo at the Bar at Empress by Boon

The bar at Empress by Boon is San Francisco’s best kept secret perched above Chinatown with 180° views of downtown and Telegraph Hill. It’s a dining destination that cannot be missed, ideal for sipping handcrafted seasonal cocktails and seasonal Cantonese cuisine prepared by a Michelin Chef. The best part is reservations are not required and you will have front row seats of the glowing sunset as it sets over the Bay.

The bar at Empress by Boon offers a special a la carte menu (a more casual option from the standard prix fixe menu) with many dishes perfectly designed for dining solo. Exciting dishes guests can only enjoy at the bar overlooking the city, include small bites such as Iberico Pork Xiao Long Bao ($21) and Crispy Quail with chili, garlic, and 20-year Huadiao wine ($24), or main courses such as Red Snapper with Malaysian asam ($28) or Roasted Crispy Chicken with rice wine and garlic ($28).

Guests also have the option to elevate their solo dining experience by pairing their meal with seasonal handcrafted cocktails such as Look at the Flowers with The Botanist Gin, Calvados, Crème de Violette, Eucalyptus, and Lime; Sweet Emotion with Pandan infused Vodka, Aviation Gin, Green Chartreuse, Spiced Pear Liquor, Lime, and Orange Bitters; and Twelve Roses with Jasmine Rice infused Vodka, Suntory Roku Gin, Combier Rose, Lillet Rose, and Orange Bitters.

Empress by Boon is open Monday through Saturday, 5 p.m.—10 p.m. and reservations for the main dining room can be booked by calling 415.757.0728 or via www.TheEmpressSF.com .

About Empress by Boon

Empress by Boon is San Francisco’s newest, must-visit epicurean destination in the heart of Chinatown offering a seasonal menu in modern Cantonese gastronomy. Michelin-starred Chef Ho Chee Boon applies traditional culinary techniques to fresh ingredients from local purveyors and the restaurant’s own farm to produce distinctive contemporary dishes infused with Cantonese flavors.

The expansive restaurant, with striking city views and several unique dining areas, occupies the former location of Chinatown’s celebrated Empress of China. The original Empress served the San Francisco community with an elegant dining experience for nearly half a century before closing in 2014. Reimagined by Chef Boon and team, the iconic space was brought back to its former glory by embracing modern design elements while incorporating restored original features, creating a welcoming atmosphere that pays homage to the history of the beloved landmark.
