NEW ORLEANS, June 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Old No 77 Hotel & Chandlery (“Old 77 Hotel”) announced today that it has taken action to investigate and address an incident affecting payment card data at the hotel’s front desk.
On May 3, 2017, Old 77 Hotel was notified by law enforcement of a potential data security issue involving one of its front-desk terminals. Old 77 Hotel immediately commenced an investigation and engaged a computer forensics firm to assist. The investigation identified signs that an unauthorized program was installed on one of the payment terminals at Old 77 Hotel’s front-desk designed to copy data as it was input into the terminal. The data copied by the program included payment card data – including cardholder name, payment card account number, card expiration date, and internal verification code – of certain guests who used a payment card at this one terminal during the period from July 12, 2016 to August 4, 2016. Cards used on Old 77 Hotel’s website were not affected.
