MONAT Global Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Michigan Hairstylist

DETROIT, March 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — MONAT Global Corp, a world-class designer, manufacturer, and distributor of hair care products, has filed a defamation lawsuit in federal court against Kayla Baker, a Michigan hairstylist who sells hair care products that compete with MONAT.

MONAT alleges that Baker has repeatedly published false and disparaging statements about the quality and safety of MONAT’s products online. Additionally, the lawsuit states that Baker had a financial incentive to do so, noting that she received commissions or other incentives to sell competing hair care products.

“Unfortunately, we at MONAT are being forced to use litigation to stop this defamatory attack on our Market Partners and on our products,” said MONAT President Stuart MacMillan. “This attack, and others like it, are aimed at damaging the livelihoods of thousands of Market Partners and their families who have safely and successfully served their customers across the United States and Canada.”

MONAT asserts that there is no scientific or other factual basis for these claims. The company’s products have undergone independent, clinical testing, and millions of consumers safely use MONAT products every day. 

MONAT is seeking injunctive relief against Baker making any further false statements, as well as damages for her past statements that have damaged MONAT’s reputation.

MONAT recently settled its defamation against another woman, Vickie Harrington, in connection with statements made by Harrington about MONAT and its products. As part of MONAT’s successful resolution of this matter, Harrington has agreed to pay MONAT to settle its claims against her.
