Celebrity chefs, cultural delicacies, and vibrant traditions take center stage in an unforgettable evening celebrating Guam’s culinary heritage.
The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) brought the essence of Guam to Seoul with ‘Taste of Guam Night,’ an exclusive culinary showcase held on November 13 at The Class Cheongdam.
The event celebrated the rich flavors, techniques, and traditions of Chamorro cuisine, offering over 120 distinguished guests an immersive journey into Guam’s gastronomic heritage.
Notable attendees included Eun Ho Sang, Chairman of the GVB Korea Marketing Committee, along with media professionals, key travel industry partners, and social media influencers. Adding star power to the evening were acclaimed Korean chef Choi Hyun Seok, renowned for his appearance in Nextflix’s “Culinary Class Wars”, and actor Baek Sung Hyun, who emceed the event.
GVB featured internationally-renowned Chef Peter T.C. Duenas, owner of Meskla Chamoru Fusion Bistro, and Chef Darwin Arreola to showcase Guam’s culinary excellence. Guests indulged in an array of Chamorro dishes, including two variations of kelaguen (fish and shrimp), Chamorro BBQ, fried whole fish (kadiyu style), smoked pork, red rice, a tropical-inspired shrimp burger, and sweet treats like boñelos aga’ and latiya. Chef Duenas captivated the audience with a live demonstration of shrimp kelaguen, sharing the cultural roots and history behind the dish.
“This event was a meaningful opportunity to introduce Chamorro cuisine to the Korean market,” said Eun Ho Sang, Chairman of the GVB Korea Marketing Committee. “Through initiatives like the ‘Taste of Guam’ project and the recent launch of the Delicious Guam F&B Guidebook, we’ve been able to highlight Guam’s culinary traditions and position the island as a unique destination for food and culture.”
