Bangkok, 11 May, 2021 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is delighted to congratulate Ms. Ariya Jutanugarn who became the first Thai player in the 14 years the event has been held to win the Honda LPGA Thailand 2021 tournament after a drama-packed final hole at the Siam Country Club Pattaya Old Course on 9 May, 2021.
Ms. Ariya won by one shot when former amateur champion Ms. Atthaya Thitikul missed a birdie putt on the 18th hole to force a play-off.
The victory had been a long time coming for former world number one Ms. Ariya, who first played the course as an 11-year-old and went close to winning in 2016. She finished with a nine-under 63 on the day for an overall score of -22. Ms. Atthaya was one shot back overall and carded a four-under 68.
Ms. Ariya will receive prizemoney of 7.5 million Baht, while Ms. Atthaya will receive 4.8 million Baht, for her second place.
The Honda LPGA Thailand is the longest running LPGA tournament in South East Asia and is one of the biggest sport events in Thailand.
The 14th edition of the tournament features a strong field of 72 top golfers who are chasing a purse valued at 50 million Baht, and a Honda Accord Hybrid, HYBRID TECH variant valued at 1.799 million Baht for the hole-in-one prize.

During the four days of competition, from 6-9 May, 2021, the tournament was broadcast live to more than 100 countries worldwide and via PPTV GOLD on www.pptvhd36.com, Facebook, YouTube or application PPTVHD36 as well as local live broadcast via PPTV HD 36.
According to Ms. Winnie Heng, Vice President and Managing Director for Thailand at IMG, the event was a success thanks to the continued support from its title sponsor Honda and all tournament partners. She also acknowledged the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and the Sports Authority of Thailand for their constant guidance in ensuring a safe and secure event was delivered.
“We do hope that the staging of Honda LPGA Thailand this year, will pave the way for more international sports events to be staged in a safe and secure environment, here in Thailand and that it will further help promote sports tourism and golf tourism once again,” said Mis Heng.
