Beck Construction and Associates slapped with race discrimination lawsuit by Scott | Perez LLP

DALLAS, Jan. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Scott | Perez LLP has filed a lawsuit on behalf of four African American construction workers who were subjected to racial harassment and discrimination while working on the new JPMorgan Chase headquarters. The lawsuit names multiple companies, including Dallas-based Beck Company, among others. The lawsuit alleges the four workers—Lerone Boyd, Michael Marshall, Jimmy Allen, and Trojuan Cornett—were subjected to daily verbal abuse and harassment that included constant use of the “N” word, and actually culminated in two assaults on one of the workers.  “It’s one of the worst cases of workplace race discrimination I’ve seen,” said the workers’ lead attorney, Matt Scott.  “What these four went through nobody should have to go through to earn a paycheck.”  The lawsuit alleges multiple white co-workers at the site were former members of the Aryan Brotherhood. “Some of these workers had numerous racist tattoos, including swastikas, and one worker had a tattoo across his entire back that read, ‘White Pride—Committed to My Culture,'” said Scott.  The lawsuit alleges that despite complaining about the harassment to Defendants Aerotek, Inc., a staffing company on the project, and JR Butler, Inc., a crane operator at the site, nothing was done.  After the workers complained about the harassment to Beck, the general contractor of the site, they were promptly fired.  The lawsuit was filed in the 95th Judicial District Court of Dallas County.  It is styled Lerone Boyd, Michael Marshall, Trojuan Cornett, and Jimmy Allen v. Beck Co., d/b/a Beck Group, Aerotek, Inc., JR Butler, Inc., ML Holdings Company Crane Group, LLC, Crane Service General Partner, Inc., Morgan Patnode, and Mitchell West, Cause No. DC-18-00907.
