What Is It Like to Travel Full Time With Four Kids Under Ten?

Our eight year old daughter finds it amusing to share with people were homeless. This isn’t strictly true, it’s just our home is on wheels and now we rarely remain in normally the one place for greater week. We are a family group of six, with four kids aged under 10, who have decided to travel fulltime around Australia.

The caravan has truly become home after over a year of living within the caravan, it’s got truly become home. The many amount of books have been swapped to get a kindle and iPod with audiobooks each. It is normal for folks to go over the nightmare of travelling with young kids. We’ve followed biographies, modern stories like Harry Potter, Narnia, and The Borrowers, as well as the classics for example Greek Myths, King Arthur and also the Knights in the Round Table, Robin Hood, Anne of Green Gables, and many more. A well read classic entertains us, and many enrich our education.

Education brings us to the heart of the issue concerning many parents considering a trip like ours. We believe how the old adage that travel broadens the minds along with the horizons are true. Distance Education or School from the Air will not suit our family.A�Homeschooling suits us well, as we overcome exploration, experience, and child-led discovery. A literate-rich environment that centres for the classics is central on their education, and now we will select and recommend books that they must read. Mum has created maths and phonics quizzes to try out in the car, and the kids often decide to write imaginative stories, letters, plus a travel diary. Our eldest may play maths quizzes about the iPad.

Friends are harder to come across around the road. Mum and Dad mind a lot more than your children, who don’t apparently mind. The kids keep in contact with friends home, and definately will befriend people quickly. They are at ease with people of every age group, and will speak with anyone in a campground. Playgrounds and swimming are great places to satisfy other kids. It’s always a pleasing surprise to satisfy other kids, however it doesn’t happen every single day.

So how long can we travel?A�We recently discussed that as a family group, with out one is willing to ‘settle down’. The kids were asked where they desired to live of everywhere they’d observed in Australia. “Uluru!” each of them shouted, “but only sometimes because we do not want to live anywhere permanently.”
