The growing overtourism debate is impacting destinations’ e-reputation, as UNWTO-Awarded Competitive Intelligence Agency TCI Research reveals in its latest global Destination Sentiment Tracker.
In the ranking of destinations mostly associated to overtourism issues in social web conversations (all travel and non travel reputation sources included), destinations like Barcelona, Palma, Amsterdam and Venice dominates, however the phenomenon is also debated in other parts of the world (particularly US and Asia) and tends to disseminate to the country level brand e-reputation.
The Competitive Research Agency adds: “As another evidence that the problem is not only the growth but the way growth is managed, we see popular destinations like Austria or Greece not too much mentioned currently while still attracting millions of visitors”.
