Failing to fund non-military agencies leaves job 'half done,' union leader says

WASHINGTON, Feb. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — American Federation of Government Employees National President J. David Cox Sr. today issued the following statement:

“Our nation’s defense, security, and prosperity depend on more than funding just the military. Securing our borders, protecting us from dangerous criminals, developing better vaccines and cancer treatments, and keeping homeless veterans off the streets all depend on fully funding our federal government.

“Funding the Department of Defense through the rest of the fiscal year while keeping equally vital, non-military programs in limbo is nothing short of leaving the job half done. Without full-year funding, agencies are unable to start new projects, fill new positions, or focus on long-range solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems.

“The American people want and deserve a functioning government and expect Congress to do its job. Congress and the administration need to resolve their differences and pass a long-term budget for all federal agencies so that federal employees can continue to do their jobs in service to our country.”
