Earlier, the Wyoming Highway Patrol issued an instantaneous closure order for Highway 189/191 from mile marker 110 (Daniel Junction) to mile marker 160 (top of Hoback Canyon – Stinking Bridge) as a result of advancement of the Roosevelt Fire to the highway boundary. A Red Flag Warning and heavy winds caused the fire to spill towards the highway. However, multiple alternate highway entry points to the city of Jackson remain open and open to travelers and all services and amenities within and round the Town of Jackson are unaffected. The highway closure affects only 1 of the southern entry points to the Jackson area. Alternate routes from the south, west and east include Highway 26/89 through Star Valley Hoback and Ranch Junction from the south, Highway 22 over Teton Pass entering from the west, and Highway 26/287 from the east through Dubois and over Togwotee Pass. Travelers should pursue alternate routes by accessing the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) Travel Information Service online at www.wyoroad.info and using the Wyoming 511 Travel Information Map or by calling toll free 1-888-WYO-ROAD (1-888-996-7623).
