Earlier today, the Wyoming Highway Patrol issued an immediate closure order for Highway 189/191 from mile marker 110 (Daniel Junction) to mile marker 160 (top of Hoback Canyon – Stinking Bridge) due to the advancement of the Roosevelt Fire to the highway boundary. A Red Flag Warning and heavy winds caused the fire to spill towards the highway. However, multiple alternate highway entry points to the Town of Jackson remain open and available to travelers and all services and amenities within and around the Town of Jackson are unaffected. The highway closure affects only one of the southern entry points to the Jackson area. Alternate routes from the south, west and east include Highway 26/89 through Star Valley Ranch and Hoback Junction from the south, Highway 22 over Teton Pass entering from the west, and Highway 26/287 from the east through Dubois and over Togwotee Pass. Travelers are encouraged to pursue alternate routes by accessing the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) Travel Information Service online at www.wyoroad.info and utilizing the Wyoming 511 Travel Information Map or by calling toll free 1-888-WYO-ROAD (1-888-996-7623).
