Bangkok, 6 January, 2021 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide the latest update on the summary of COVID-19 control measures at individual Thai provinces, categorised as maximum controlled areas, highly controlled areas, controlled areas, and areas under high surveillance by the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
The TAT Newsroom is doing our utmost to compile accurate information at the current time to inform all travellers in Thailand. This summary will be updated regularly as soon as further information becomes available. The definition of different areas categorised by the CCSA as well as the stricter restrictions imposed by the Royal Thai Government specifically on the highly controlled areas is provided at the end of this update.

Maximum Controlled Areas – are the provinces where a high number of local cases have been detected in more than one area, and the government has stepped up entry-exit screening and contact tracing measures.
Highly Controlled Areas – are the provinces where a high number of local cases have been detected in more than one area.
Controlled Areas – are provinces that either have a border with a highly controlled area province or have more than 10 new cases.
Areas Under High Surveillance are provinces with less than 10 cases yet have measures in place to control the community spread
Educational institutions at all levels in the highly controlled areas are ordered to close until 31 January, 2021.
Closure of at-risk venues in the highly controlled areas may vary from province to province, and may cover all of the following:
- Entertainment businesses and venues; such as, pubs, bars, karaoke, massage parlours and bath venues;
- Water and theme parks;
- Children’s playgrounds and stations of all types;
- Snooker and billiard venues;
- Game stations, games and Internet shops;
- Gambling venues of all types, including fighting cock-bull-fish venues, horse racetracks, and racetracks of all types;
- Children’s nurseries or elderly care facilities (except regular overnight care services);
- Boxing stadiums, boxing gyms and martial art gyms;
- Banquet and similar venues;
- Buddha amulets stalls and centres;
- Preschool nurseries and kindergartens;
- Beauty clinics; tattoo and piercing services;
- Fitness centres;
- Healthcare venues including spas and traditional Thai massage shops;
- Ice skating rinks and bowling alleys or similar venues;
- Dance and ballet schools.
Businesses and venues which are allowed to remain open in the highly controlled areas under strict disease control measures may vary from province to province, and may cover all of the following:
- All food and beverage outlets including street food stalls, restaurants, food courts and centres and cafeterias (excluding pubs and bars which are ordered closed);
- Shopping malls, department stores and community malls;
- Exhibition halls and convention centres; hotel’s meeting facilities;
- Retail and wholesale shops of all types and sizes;
- Markets, floating markets and flea markets;
- Hair salons and barbers & beauty clinics and manicure/pedicure service venues;
- Regular overnight care services at nurseries or elderly day cares;
- Sports venues of all types, golf courses and driving ranges, and public parks
- Pet care venues;
- Botanic gardens, museums, learning centres, historical sites, national parks, public libraries, art galleries, zoos and similar venues;
- Cinemas and theatres.
The above COVID-19 control measures at Thai provinces are in addition to the ‘New Normal’ practices already in place nationwide, including body temperature screening points, predetermined social distancing areas, plus alcohol gel and handwashing stations are provided on a regular basis.
Contact tracing measures include requiring everyone to check-in and check-out by scanning the ‘Thai Chana’ application QR code or providing contact details that are submitted to the provincial health office.
The CCSA has advised the public to take DMHTT precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19: D – Distancing, M – Mask wearing, H – Handwashing, T – Temperature check, and T – Thai Chana contact tracing application.
