Why does Nigeria’s Health Minister say no to Medical Tourism?

March 27, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Nigeria Minister of Health Isaac Adewole has challenged physicians in the country to live up to their professional calling and find ways to discourage medical tourism in the country.

The Minister said that unless Nigerian professionals live up to the task of restoring sanity in the health sector, the challenges facing it will continue to linger if the potentials of health professionals are not harnessed.

The number of Nigerians leaving the country to seek medical treatment abroad is increasing, and this is having a $1.3 million impact in the way of lost revenue on the Nigerian economy.

Tens of thousands of Nigerians travel every year to the US, UK, India, Thailand, Turkey, France, Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and China, among other countries, to seek treatment for medical issues ranging from kidney transplants, open heart or cardiac surgeries, neurosurgeries, cosmetic surgeries, orthopedic surgeries, eye surgeries and other health conditions, and even delivering babies.

In his address, the Chairman of the West Africa College of Physicians, Abel Onunnu, described the migration of health professionals in the West African sub-region as worrisome, noting that the government must find a way to bring it to an end.

The minister made this statement at the annual conference of West African college of physicians that was held in Kaduna. The conference was held under the theme of enhancing performance of the health sector, and the event saw medical professionals discuss topical issues affecting the sector.

Rocco Forte appoints GM for Masseria Torre Maizza

March 26, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Rocco Forte Hotels is pleased to announce the appointment of Franco Girasoli as General Manager of Masseria Torre Maizza set to open May 1 in Puglia.

An Italian native, Girasoli brings 30 years of hospitality experience to the new Apulian resort and has excelled at building strong relationships with an international clientele from key markets such as the United States, the UK, Russia, Japan, France and Germany.

Prior to taking the helms of the new Rocco Forte property, Girasoli spent a large part of his career with Belmond Group, where he started in the F&B department of Villa San Michele and eventually moved his way up to General Manager in 2004. After 20 years in Tuscany, Girasoli transferred to Ravello in 2008 where, for 10 years, he led the team at the Belmond Hotel Caruso.

Located in the charming town of Savellestri di Fasano, Masseria Torre Maizza is an historic farmhouse dating back to the 16th century, surrounded by ancient olive trees and a 9-hole golf course.

Rocco Forte Hotels has invested over 6 million euros to enhance the masseria back to its natural beauty.  Olga Polizzi, Director of Design for Rocco Forte Hotels has worked closely with local artisans to redesign the historic building. The hotel will now offer 40 luxurious rooms and suites, each boasting private gardens and terraces with stunning views across the Apulian countryside.

“I am proud to be joining the Rocco Forte Hotels team, especially to inaugurate their first luxury resort in Puglia.  This is one of the most attractive destinations in the south of Italy” said Girasoli.

Sir Rocco Forte, Founder and Chairman of Rocco Forte Hotels, added: “We are delighted to welcome Franco to our first luxury hotel in Puglia. I am sure that his experience will allow us to achieve great results in an exciting year for Rocco Forte Hotels.”

The appointment of Girasoli is part of an unprecedented moment of expansion for the Rocco Forte Hotels group which, in May 2019, will also inaugurate its second property in Rome, the iconic Hotel De La Ville a few steps from Piazza di Spagna.

“Can no longer serve French territory”: France bans Iran’s Mahan Air

March 25, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

France has revoked the license of Iranian airline Mahan Air from April 1 on its activities outside of Europe, Reuters cited three French officials as saying on Monday.

The decision follows a similar German move in January. It was made on the grounds of the airline transporting military equipment and personnel to Syria and other Middle East war zones, according to two diplomatic sources.

“Mahan Air can no longer serve French territory as of April 1,” a French Foreign Ministry official said.

Mass Panic during Disneyland Paris “Terror Attack” Today

March 24, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

It was a busy and exciting weekend for Disneyland in Paris, France. Terror, shots, and a mass panic was on the list of uncalled adventures today.

Disneyland Paris, originally Euro Disney Resort, is an entertainment resort in Marne-la-Vallée, France, a new town located 32 km east of the center of Paris.

It happened in Disney Village next to many of the shops in this American amusement park.
Loud noises sounded like shots fired, and visitors ran for their lives trying to find a place to shield from the ongoing attack. Security and police arrived in full force, but according to the home ministry, there was no attack. A fault on a moving walkway caused the noise mistaken as shots.

Everyone thought it was an attack.. There was a stampede and an enormous panic, witnesses told local media.

It took 5 long minutes before someone turned off the moving walkway eliminating the “shootings.”

Alitalia airline: The ongoing medley

March 20, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

The journey of Gianfranco Battisti, CEO of Ferrovie Dello Stato Italiane (FS), to the United States would have borne its first fruits in the definition of the new company for Alitalia, but so far nothing is definite.

Delta Airlines, in fact, should officially join the new Alitalia, but with an initial share of only 10%. The commitment signed with the managing director of FS doubles over the next four years to satisfy the industrial plan still being defined.

The managing director of Delta, Ed Bastian, would, therefore, have confirmed the interest for a percentage of shares similar to those already held in Air France-KLM, even if now FS will have to increase its participation up to 40%.

The US carrier, in fact, will guarantee its gradual investment to the point of controlling 20% as long as the new company makes profits, a scheme that follows the operation that Delta has already successfully experienced with Aeroméxico (from 19 to 49% in the past few years.)

According to the Italian press, the Battisti-Bastian confrontation would have focused on the shares of the new team, its shareholders, and governance, while the definition of the industrial aspects of the plan will need more time. As a result, a further postponement of the presentation of the Alitalia business plan is expected to be scheduled for next March 31.

easyJet’s second thought

In a peremptory tone through a press release, easyJet definitively closes the door on a possible entry into Alitalia. “Following the conversations with FS and Delta Air Lines for the creation of a consortium that evaluated the options for future Alitalia operations, easyJet decided to withdraw. However, the airline told the Adnkronos agency of its intentions to confirm its commitment to Italy and to continue to invest in the three airports of Milan, Naples, and Venice as done in recent years, adding routes and capabilities.”

The NewCo scheme

In the new Alitalia, therefore, 50% would be controlled by FS and Delta and another 15% would be due to MEF (the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finances) through the conversion of a bridge loan. It remains to be clarified how the remaining 35% would be divided. According to the newspaper Il Messaggero, in fact, Battisti would have obtained from the Treasury the availability of Fincantieri to cover 10-15%, while an additional 20% would remain to be covered (there are talks again of CDP – Italian National Promotional Institution) or Poste ( the state mail company) through some subsidiary companies. The new Alitalia could start with a capital requirement of around 1 billion euros.

While waiting for its future to be defined, Alitalia states to have recorded a 2.7% increase in passenger numbers on intercontinental routes compared to the same month of the previous year. And passenger revenue traffic is up by 1.2% on long-haul flights compared to the same period in 2018.

February cargo revenue, as stated by Alitalia, also increased by 4.9%. The results obtained on intercontinental routes have contributed to overall revenues, allowing Alitalia to record for the fifteenth consecutive month, growth in total passenger traffic turnover.

Lufthansa launches seven new European destinations from Munich

March 20, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

During this year´s summer flight schedule Lufthansa launches seven new destinations in Germany and Europe. There are several weekly flights to Strasbourg and Rostock for the first time, and the offer is being extended to Spain, France, Italy and Croatia. “The summer timetable offers business travellers important connections via Munich to the rest of the world. Holidaymakers can also look forward to attractive new holiday destinations, especially around the Mediterranean,” says Wilken Bormann, Lufthansa CEO Hub Munich. Lufthansa is flying from Munich to 140 destinations in 46 countries this summer. These include 113 destinations in Germany and Europe that can be reached non-stop from the southern Lufthansa hub.

On April 9, Lufthansa will be taking off from Munich to Strasbourg for the first time. As the seat of the European Parliament, the city in Alsace is an important business destination. But Strasbourg is also interesting for short-term holidaymakers: The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Bombardier CRJ900 brings passengers to Strasbourg five times a week, offering an optimal option for business and leisure travelers.

Alicante is on the Munich flight plan for the first time on April 12. An Airbus A320 will fly to the port city on the Costa Blanca three times a week.

Until now, Tivat has been considered a little-known holiday destination. Now, a less than two-hour flight links the city in Montenegro to Munich. Steeped in history, Tivat is located near the Bay of Kotor and, with its historical settlements by the fjord-like bay, is a UNESCO World and Natural Heritage Site. From April 13, Lufthansa will be taking off in an Airbus A319 to Montenegro every Saturday.

After a long break, Rostock/Laage is back on the Lufthansa flight schedule. From May 1, the CRJ900 will be flying from Munich twice a day and on every Sunday afternoon. Transfer passengers have optimal connections to the worldwide Lufthansa network in Munich.

Also new in the timetable is Biarritz. The seaside resort on the French Atlantic coast will be served every Saturday from May 25 with a Bombardier CRJ900. The legendary holiday destination offers long sandy beaches and is an Eldorado for surfers.

For the first time, northern Croatia is just an hour’s flight away from Munich: Rijeka is the name of the new Lufthansa destination, which is considered the gateway to the Croatian islands. On Saturdays, also from May 25, a Bombardier CRJ900 will fly to the Kvarner Gulf region.

Tourists can now also reach Rimini on the Italian Adriatic coast directly from Munich with Lufthansa. A CRJ900 will touchdown at the popular holiday destination every Sunday from May 26.

Significant milestone: Qatar Airways takes delivery of its 250th aircraft

March 20, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Qatar Airways today celebrated the arrival of its 250th aircraft, an Airbus A350-900 from Toulouse, France, the latest addition to the group’s growing fleet of passenger, Cargo and executive aircraft.

This impressive landmark comes just 22 years after the carrier began operations, and is testament to the incredible growth of an airline that has become world-leading in that time, winning a host of awards, including the Skytrax World Airline of the Year accolade on no less than four occasions.

The new A350-900 joins the airline’s state-of-the-art fleet, where the average age of aircraft is less than five years old. As of 20 March 2019, Qatar Airways’ fleet is made up of 203 passenger aircraft, 25 Cargo and 22 Qatar Executive jets.

Commenting on the achievement, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “I am extremely proud that we have reached this historic landmark of having a fleet that now numbers 250 aircraft. The delivery of our newest Airbus A350-900 is a mark of the outstanding growth we have seen over the last two decades, and to our commitment to flying only the newest and most technologically advanced aircraft in the world.

“Qatar Airways is moving forward with the rapid expansion of our global route network, an enhanced on board product offering in all cabin classes and, most importantly, taking delivery of the world’s most technologically advanced aircraft because we want our customers to have an unforgettable experience when they fly with us. This is an important moment in our growth, and I look forward to seeing our fleet grow even more in the coming years.”

Qatar Airways is renowned for its state-of-the-art fleet. Last year, the airline became the world’s launch customer of the Airbus A350-1000, symbolising Qatar Airways’ determination to lead the way in the industry by pioneering and championing the latest technology and innovation. In 2014, the airline became the global launch customer of the Airbus A350-900, becoming the first airline in the world to operate every family of Airbus’ modern airliner portfolio.

In January 2015, Qatar Airways deployed its newly-received, world-first, Airbus A350 XWB aircraft on the Frankfurt route and in 2016, it became the first airline to fly the A350 family of aircraft to three continents.
