“There is no better way to promote a country than when a person visits and feels welcomed, enjoys themselves and is enriched and enlightened, that is the best ambassador a country can have,” Piñera said.
Piñera discussed how the tourism industry has contributed to Chilean society and “the participation of women, of the small firms and regions.”
Tourist arrivals have grown at an average annual rate of 10 percent over the past decade.
In terms of domestic tourism, more than 25 million people traveled around Chile, or 10 times more than 15 years ago.
Last year, according to figures provided by Piñera’s office, tourism generated revenues of $4.25 billion.
