Pyongyang would be to suspend Chinese tour group visits to North Korea before a high-profile anniversary the following month, yesterday news reports said.
The North’s Korea International Youth Travel Agency told a Chinese tourist agency that hotels in Pyongyang will be closed for renovations for 20 days starting yesterday, South Korean media reports said.

Another North Korean travel agency informed its Chinese partner an unspecified “state decision” meant that they had to avoid receiving Chinese tour groups until Sept. 5, the reports said.
North Korea has during the past restricted entry to foreign tourists because the national country prepares for significant events, giving a number of known reasons for the moves, Yonhap reported.
The latest measures came because the North prepares to mark the 70th anniversary of the building blocks of its government.
In his New Year speech in January, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said North Korean people would “greet the 70th founding anniversary of these Republic as an excellent, auspicious event.”
In part because of a recently available diplomatic thaw, the quantity of Chinese tourists visiting the North has increased rapidly.
Between 1,000 and 2,000 tourists are visiting popular sites including the North&rsquo currently; day s side of the demilitarized zone within a, online news provider NK News said.
The surge in Chinese tourism might have been seen by North Korean authorities as straining Pyongyang’ s limited hotel infrastructure of the anniversary ahead, NK News said.
The North has been finding your way through the arrival of foreign delegations and a large number of North Korean citizens have reportedly been practicing choreographed movements in Pyongyang for the state celebration of the anniversary.
YTN TV quoted a military official as saying that soldiers and weapons were converging on Mirim military airport near Pyongyang to apply a military parade.

A satellite picture showed massive camouflage hangars have already been put up, sparking speculation that the North may be hiding long-range missile launch and transport vehicles.
Similar camouflage hangars were observed in January once the North was finding your way through a military parade to mark a military anniversary the next month.
The North in those days showcased what were its two newest intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), the Hwasong-15 and Hwasong-14.
“The hangars look large to conceal ICBMs&rdquo enough; Shin Jong-woo, a South Korean defense analyst, told YTN.
During talks around President Donald Trump in Singapore in, Kim made dedication to denuclearization — though it was from the longstanding US demand for the entire far, irreversible and verifiable dismantling of Pyongyang’s atomic arsenal.
Although Trump touted the summit as a historic breakthrough, the North has since criticized Washington for “gangster-like” demands of complete, irreversible and verifiable disarmament.
The US has urged the international community to keep tough sanctions on the North.
