KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture plans to use for some allocation from the revenue collected from tourism tax to be utilized as addition funding for national tourism, heritage and arts efforts.
Its minister, Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, said that it had been fair in case a little of the revenue that was managed by the Ministry of Finance get to his ministry.

“We have been the collectors. It’s the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and the Ministry of Finance who keep carefully the money. Indeed, we’ve the intention (to request) … Give us handful of the money that people have collected,here today ” he told reporters following the 2018 National Heritage Declaration ceremony.
Mohamaddin stressed that the tourism tax wouldn’t normally be abolished since it was way to obtain the country’s revenue.
He said the tax charged at RM10 per room for just one night was reasonable rather than burdensome and only put on foreign tourists.
Malaysia started implementing the tourism tax, per night on foreign travellers residing in hotels or registered properties a set rate of RM10, on Sept 1, 2017.
Earlier, Mohamaddin declared 255 heritage details covering 24 heritage sites, 225 heritage objects like the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee’s songs and six living people as 2018 National Heritages. — Bernama
