INTERNATIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION OUT OF THE WOODS ON DISPLAY AT THE FOUNDRY ART CENTRE BEGINNING OCTOBER 5

St. Charles, MO – Out of the Woods – Celebrating Trees in Public Gardens, The New York Botanical Garden Third Triennial an international juried traveling exhibition of artwork by members of the American Society of Botanical Artists will be on view at the Foundry Art Centre October 5 through December 28, 2018. All works in the exhibition depict specimen trees growing in botanical gardens and arboreta around the world.

A central goal in presenting the exhibition is to highlight the role botanical gardens and arboreta play in educating the public about trees and their ecological and utilitarian value, maintaining living collections of trees, and carrying out research, scholarship, and conservation efforts related to trees.

Forty-four artworks are included in the exhibition by artists from 14 U. S. states as well as from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan and the Netherlands. The works portray trees from small regional arboreta to world renowned institutions on five continents each illustrating in fine detail one of the planet’s most important and beautiful resources.  Working in watercolor, oil, graphite, colored pencil, and ink, this international field of artists responded aesthetically to these inspiring subjects and depicted everything from seed pods, to branches and bark, to an entire forest floor.

The exhibition is free and open to the public at the Foundry Art Centre. An Opening Reception will be held from 5:30 – 8:00pm on Friday, October 5, 2018.
