To support Italian enterprises, who aim at investing in the emerging countries of the MENA area (Middle East North Africa), events and initiatives have been organized, including a dedicated Focus on Morocco, a country extremely intent on developing renewable energies, which will be held on Thursday, November 8, in the context of the Key Energy exhibition/conference in the setting of the international conference ”Renewables around the World”.
The Morocco session will be an unmissable possibility for discovering the best opportunities and areas in which to invest in Morocco. It is organized by RES4MED&Africa, an association promoting large-scale development of solutions renewable energy in the area Southern Mediterranean and in African and sub-Saharan countries, and the participation has been announced of Roberto Vigotti, Secretary General of RES4MED&Africa.
“Morocco is the first country on which we have focussed as RES4Med”, explains Vigotti, “and in the course of just a few years the progress achieved is already clear. Various reasons induce Morocco to head towards renewable energies: from the desire to overcome the need to import fossil fuels from abroad and exploit the area’s sources of clean energy, to the will to fight climate change. The result remains unchanged: Morocco is determined with its choices and is increasingly asserting itself as a model, as we shall be able to see in detail on the dedicated day at Key Energy.”
In fact, if in Europe there is an upswing in the sector thanks to 2030 targets, equally virtuous projects, initiatives and policies are proposed in the countries of the southern Mediterranean area.
Morocco’s prospects are interesting. The country aims at producing 52% of its electricity from clean energies by 2030, with investments that the Minister for Energy Aziz Rabbah estimated at 40 billion dollars. Although depending to a great extent on fossil fuels for electricity generation, Morocco is proceeding rapidly in the development of renewable energies, as is shown by the NOOR 160 MW solar power station and the Khalladi 120 MW wind farm which, along with other plants, will increase green power to 800 MW by the end of this year.
The Morocco session will also feature coverage of issues regarding the liberalization of the market of LV and MV cables with the participation of authoritative speakers, representing important companies of the sector, such as Veronica Lenzi, Policy and Content Manager MedREG Secretariat, Giovanni Simoni, CEO Kenergia, Gianluca Biscotti, Founder BFP Group, and companies such as Principal Consultant Poyry, Siemens Gamesa. Michele Porri, Head of Business Development Africa, Enel Green Power, will moderate the proceedings. The event will end with a meeting on the main drivers for innovation in the energy sector, with the participation of Enel X and recognized companies in the energy and electric mobility sectors.
