Hilton Plans Landmark New Hotel in Rome

Hilton Rome Eur – La Lama is due to open in 2020 with direct access to the Roma Convention Centre – “La Nuvola”

February 19, 2019 Europe

ROME and MCLEAN, VA – Hilton (NYSE:HLT) has signed a management agreement with long standing partners Icarus SpA to open Hilton Rome Eur – La Lama. Construction is underway on the new build hotel, which includes 439 guest rooms within an architecturally distinctive structure known as “La Lama” (The Blade).

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton, said: ‘Rome is one of Europe’s most visited cities, and its rich history, culture and cuisine draws millions of visitors each year. The opening of the Roma Convention Centre in 2016 elevated the city’s reputation as a corporate travel destination, and the arrival of Hilton Rome Eur – La Lama in 2020 will further enhance the city’s events and meetings offering. The hotel’s striking design and world-class hospitality will ensure its pre-eminence as the country’s leading convention hotel.”

Hilton Rome Eur – La Lama is in Rome’s Eur district, in the south of the city. The neighbourhood has undergone extensive redevelopment in recent years and is a vibrant business hub with large corporate headquarters situated in the area, such as Poste Italiane, Eni and ACEA.

The hotel will have direct access via a concourse to Rome’s foremost conference venue. Named La Nuvola (The Cloud) after the unique shape of the property – which was designed by Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas – the Roma Convention Centre is the largest in Rome and can host events of nearly 8,000 delegates in its main ballroom.

Filippo Rebecchini, president, Icarus SpA, said: “This year will be the 20th anniversary of our partnership with Hilton. Since the opening of our first hotel together, Hilton Rome Airport in 1999, this partnership has produced some of the finest hospitality on offer in Rome. Hilton Rome Eur – La Lama is the next chapter in our association, offering reliable hospitality to our loyal guests.”

An all-day dining restaurant and lobby bar will be situated on the hotel’s ground floor, while a destination restaurant is set to be the area’s leading eatery when it opens on the property’s 15th floor. The hotel will also include an executive lounge and business and fitness centres.

Hilton Rome Eur – La Lama joins a pedigree of Hilton conference and events hotels in Europe and Italy, including Hilton London Metropole, Hilton Warsaw Hotel & Convention Center, Hilton Saint Petersburg ExpoForum, Hilton Prague, Hilton Vienna, Hilton Berlin, Hilton Munich Park and Hilton Catania Capo Mulini, which is due to open in Sicily in 2020.
