Dozens of dead rats washed through to packed beaches in Barcelona today.
Tourists swam within feet of the floating corpses on the Spanish coast.
It is believed the rats have accumulated after storms and flash floods lashed the town.
Council officials rushed to the beaches to clear and debris following the rain litter, but found the bodies of rats .
Staff scooped the corpses from the water with large nets.
And it really is thought the discovery and weather won’t impact on tourism, a important industry to Barcelona hugely.
More than 30 million tourists go to the city.
But residents and tourists reacted with horror on Twitter .
“There is a dead rat on the sand,” one tourist posted.
“These were really big,” added another.
But others weren’t bothered, and urged authorities to eliminate the yellow flags instead.
Yellow flags were set up for the most part of Barcelona’s 10 beaches today after debris had developed in the water and sand.
“They have to take away the yellow flags from the Catalan coast,” a resident wrote.
on Saturday and Sunday
Neighbouring authorities had issued warning flag.
