Broken glasses, battered heels, lost buttons – not a problem for the expert and helpful service providers at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). A quick solution can even be found for damaged bags and suitcases. The team from the Airport Baggage Service (FGS) in Arrivals Hall B can remedy any luggage mishap, however big or small, in next to no time – so there’s no need to let stuck wheels, snagged zippers or missing handles ruin your travel experience.
The FGS workshop can be found at Baggage Claim B in Terminal 1 of Frankfurt Airport, directly next to Baggage Carousel 11. The staff are all familiar with the various manufacturers’ products and can quickly make damaged suitcases ready for travel again. For when an item of luggage is beyond repair, the company continuously stocks around 1,500 replacement suitcases from all well-known brands and in every price category.

There is usually no charge for repair or replacement, as the principle is that the airline is liable for the destruction, loss or damage of checked baggage. This does not include normal signs of wear and tear such as scratches, scrapes or small dents. In the event of a write-off, the current value of the item is reimbursed. In order to use the FGS service, you must make a direct complaint at the airline’s desk or in writing within seven days of the flight.
But FGS can also be your “knight in shining armor” at the beginning of your journey. When checking in animal carriers, for example, there are often problems due to size or pre-existing damage. FGS is prepared for this eventuality and can offer alternatives of all sizes that meet all carriage regulations. It also has folding boxes for sports bikes, which cannot usually be checked in without appropriate packaging.
FGS’ opening hours are aligned to the operating hours of Frankfurt Airport. The workshop is open 365 days a year from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. More information (in German) is available at www.fgs-frankfurt.de.
Passengers and visitors can find further details about the wide range of services at FRA on the airport’s Website, at the Service Shop and via the airport’s social media channels on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
