Seychelles’ Anse Source D’argent Claims Top Spot in the 2023 World’s Top 50 Best Beaches List

May 24, 2023 by PressEditor

Seychelles has again made a mark in the travel industry by having 2 of its beaches included in the prestigious World’s 50 Best Beaches list.

Anse Source D’Argent on La Digue Island secured the second spot, while Anse Lazio on Praslin Island achieved an impressive 29th ranking in the enchanting Indian Ocean paradise of Seychelles.

The World’s 50 Best Beaches list, presented by Banana Boat, is the result of a collaborative effort that gathered votes from over 750 esteemed travel influencers and professionals. Renowned figures in the industry, including Jyo Shankar, Pilot Madeleine, and Dame Traveler, took part in this comprehensive ranking, providing travelers with invaluable insights and ensuring a reliable and accurate representation of the world’s most extraordinary beaches.

The rankings for the beaches were based on several criteria, such as untouched natural beauty, remoteness, how swimmable it is, annual days of sunshine and average annual temperature. Lucky Bay in Australia, Anse Source D’Argent in Seychelles, and Hidden Beach in the Philippines claimed the top three positions, surpassing popular beach favorites.

Tine Holst, Co-Founder of The World’s 50 Best Beaches, emphasized the relevance of this study, particularly at a time when many travelers yearn for the perfect summer beach vacation. It serves as a unique way to discover hidden gems that often go unnoticed by the general public, providing ideal inspiration for a beach getaway.

The inclusion of Seychelles’ beaches on the World’s 50 Best Beaches list stands as a testament to their natural beauty and captivating landscapes.

Anse Source D’Argent, renowned as one of the world’s most photographed coastlines, captivates visitors with its golden sand, turquoise waters, and majestic granite boulders. With an impressive number of days of sunshine each year, this beach sets the stage for an idyllic beach experience.

Anse Lazio, on Praslin Island, also gained recognition by ranking among the top 30 beaches worldwide. Celebrated as one of the finest beaches globally, Anse Lazio features a wide stretch of soft white sand framed by granite rocks at both ends. Its calm, crystal-clear waters and gentle slope make it an ideal setting for swimming and snorkeling.

It is worth noting that both beaches were previously voted among the top 50 globally in 2019 and have maintained their impressive streak in 2023. This recognition further solidifies Seychelles’ position as a must-visit destination for beach lovers worldwide, offering a truly extraordinary experience.

Global policy leaders gather to share changing perspectives

May 24, 2023 by PressEditor

Forum brought together 19 policymakers from 11 countries, destination representatives, business events executives from 30-plus countries.

The pandemic has led to new ways of thinking, working and operating business events, yet “anybody who thinks they have the picture of change, are probably wrong – very different things are happening in different parts of the world,” said Professor Greg Clark CBE, Global Urbanist and leading advisor on cities and businesses at yesterday’s Policy Forum.

Part of IMEX Frankfurt, the Forum brought together 19 policymakers from 11 countries, plus destination representatives, business events association executives, and thought-leaders from 30-plus countries.

The Forum, held at the Frankfurt Marriott Hotel, aims to create a roadmap that benefits and unites both policy makers and industry leaders; to help set the agenda for future high-level conversations and in-depth research and to help build better partnerships and understanding of the value, relevance and impact of business events.

“Digital adoption and greater awareness around sustainability were silver linings post-pandemic.”

“London needs more people than ever before, but the fundamental strengths of the city and the UK remain intact and unchanged,” explained one of the panel speakers, the Deputy Mayor of London for Business, Rajesh Agrawal.

The IMEX Policy Forum is organized in collaboration with City Destinations Alliance (City DNA), the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the International Association of Convention Centers (AIPC), Meetings Mean Business Coalition, Destinations International, the Iceberg and German Convention Bureau, under the auspices of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) and Events Industry Council (EIC).

How Nature, Technology – and Baby Showers – Fuel Event Design

May 24, 2023 by PressEditor

An immersive book launch took place in the style of a Dutch baby shower to mark the publication of ‘Meetings by Default or by Design.’

The use of technology to transform, embracing failure and extraordinary event formats all formed part of conversations about event design at IMEX Frankfurt today.

“Access points, seating arrangements, views and lighting – these all matter when it comes to event design. Today’s attendees are prepared to say ‘if I can’t get my needs met, I’ll leave’, explained Janet Sperstad in her session ‘How to attract attention.’

“We try to use natural light where possible and I’m really inspired by how you can incorporate nature into events with simple tricks such as the use of greenery and wooden pallets,” said Matthias Caton, a planner from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, following Janet’s session.

An industry-wide partnership is bringing people together to plan planet-friendly events. Net Zero Carbon Events (NZCE), an initiative from The Joint Meetings Industry Council to address climate change, is working towards a methodology and guidance to be delivered at COP28 later this year. This is set to help the industry design more sustainable events and will focus on venue energy, production, waste, food and food waste, logistics, travel, and accommodation, as well as measurement, carbon offsetting, and reporting.

Don’t design by default

Turning business events into baby showers was one of the more unusual event formats showcased off the show floor. An immersive book launch took place in the style of a Dutch baby shower to mark the publication of ‘Meetings by Default or by Design’ by Dutch author Mike van der Vijver, founder of MindMeeting. With a set design reminiscent of a Dutch living room with the book – the author’s “brainchild” – nestled inside a pram, the meeting provoked conversations on meeting design and purpose.

Mike van der Vijver said:

“Meetings should be purpose-designed.”

“Start with your purpose. If you design by default – what are you missing? It’s time for the meetings industry to step up and lead non-professional meeting planners – and not just with logistics, but at all stages of the process with a coherent and structured approach.”

The Event Design Collective encouraged planners to think about failure as the starting point for event design. What are the top 10 reasons why events fail? was the question attendees were asked to consider. Uncertainty around change, confusion around the team direction, and lack of future-thinking were some of the answers given.

“Beginning the event design process by reviewing what’s gone wrong in the past is a good starting point for improvement. It helps you to figure out some of the immediate needs,” explains Event Design Collective’s Dennis Luijer.

Technology set to transform

With AI currently one of the most hotly-debated topics across the world, PCMA’s launch of a new AI tool for event professionals was timely. Sherrif Karamat, President and Chief Executive Officer of PCMA, explained: “Artificial intelligence has quietly been a part of our lives for many years, but it’s in the last few months, with the widespread accessibility of interactive tools like ChatGPT, that that reality is hitting home. The potential social and economic benefits of AI are so profound that the question is not if we will use AI, but how. And the how, we believe, must begin by putting our humanity front and centre, doing all we can to make sure that AI works for us — both collectively and individually — in positive ways.”

Also talking about AI was David Crais CPO of SYS Labs who encouraged his audience to embrace an imminent future where every attendee has their own Web 3 wallet which serves as proof of registration, visitor badge, token holder (for currency) and more. “If you’re familiar with the Event Design Canvas, Web 3 solves your entry point challenge and journey,” he said.

“Think of it this way,” he said, “HTML is to the internet what a wallet is to Web 3. A wallet is simply a browser but, more than that, it’s an entry point to a decentralized system that’s more secure and more personalized. Combine it with AI, and some virtual assistant functionality and you have a ‘wisdom keeper’; rather than your personal data living in the cloud where it’s both hackable and effectively owned and stored by a third party, your wallet lives on your phone and is your own personal property.”

Fraport AGM 2023: Executive and Supervisory Boards Report to the Shareholders

May 23, 2023 by PressEditor

Fraport CEO highlighted the achievements of the past business year, while taking an optimistic view overall of the next few months.

Fraport AG’s regular Annual General Meeting (AGM) for shareholders began at 9:00 a.m. CEST on May 23 (today), as scheduled.

The AGM is being held in a virtual-only format. Shareholders or their authorized representatives can exercise their rights via Fraport’s AGM online portal.

In his previously published speech to the AGM, Fraport CEO Dr. Stefan Schulte highlighted the achievements of the past business year, while taking an optimistic view overall of the next few months: “The year 2022 marked the long-awaited end of the coronavirus pandemic. With travel restrictions being largely lifted, demand from leisure travelers, in particular, rose sharply from March last year. In the second half of the year, we also saw a noticeable pick-up in business travel. This trend is continuing into the new year.”

“Our mainly leisure-dominated Group airports worldwide continued to recover more rapidly than the Frankfurt hub with its more complex demand structure.”

“The Greek airports, in particular, performed well: in 2022, they welcomed around four percent more passengers than in pre-crisis 2019, achieving a new all-time high. More than 57 percent of the operating result, i.e. our earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, was generated by Fraport’s international business in 2022. This underscores how economically significant our global operations now are to us as an airport company.”

CEO Schulte is also confident about Fraport’s financial performance for the current 2023 business year: “With passenger numbers in Frankfurt expected to reach between 80 and 90 percent of 2019 levels, our earnings situation will further improve in 2023. This will also be supported by the expected ongoing traffic growth at our subsidiary airports. We expect the Group result to increase significantly, to a range of between around €300 million and €420 million.”
