During his time with the adventure travel brand he has consistently outperformed sales targets and assisted the wider sales team to drive awareness of Hurtigruten in the UK and Ireland.

Walter will have full responsibility for driving and leading the UK sales team, building on the success of previous years and will report directly into the UK general manager.

Last year Hurtigruten announced the restructuring of its UK and EMEA senior team with the promotion of Anthony Daniels to general manager UK & Ireland and Heiko Jensen to vice president, sales, Europe.

Daniels said: “Mark’s entrepreneurial flare and dedication to the job has played a crucial role in delivering results.

“We are confident that Mark will continue to deliver and drive the sales team to new levels for Hurtigruten especially in the lead up to the launch of our first hybrid ship, the MS Roald Amundsen in a few months.”

The new role will take immediate effect.

Thailand’s Pla Kat wins at 46th International Snow Sculpture in Sapporo

February 7, 2019 by Forimmediaterelease

Thailand’s Pla Kat wins at 46th International Snow Sculpture in SapporoSapparo, 7 February 2019 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) sponsored an ice sculpture team at the 46th International Snow Sculpture in Sapporo that sculpted a ‘Pla Kat‘ figurine that took home top prize in the competition.

Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, said Thailand sent its first team to the competition in 1991, and this year marks the 22nd entry in the event.

This year, the Thai team created a Pla Kat (also known as ‘Siamese flighting fish’) ice sculpture to reflect the lives of the communities that live by waterways around Thailand.

Their inspiration “Pla Kat (Betta Brilliance – The Beauty and Strength of Thailand)” was recognised as the national aquatic animal by the National Identity Committee in December 2018. This was recommended by the Fisheries Department and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives as Pla Kat has many cultural and historical associations in Thailand and is referenced extensively in Thai novels and literature.

Mr. Kitsana Kaewtumrong, TAT Executive Director of the Advertising and Public Relations Department, added that ‘Teams from Thailand have won top honours seven times, including three consecutive years winning the prestigious ‘Grand Champion’ title in 2008-2010, a record that has never by beaten and stands to this day. Accordingly, this year has marked our eight grand champions in total and two years in a row for maintaining the first place in 2018 and 2019.’

Thailand’s Pla Kat wins at 46th International Snow Sculpture in SapporoThis year, the ice sculptors joining the team includes Mr. Kusol Bunkobsongserm from the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, Mr. Amnoaysak Srisuk from the Grand Hyatt Erawan, Bangkok, and Mr. Kitsana Wongtes, a freelance ice sculptor.

Mr. Tanes said, “The ‘Pla Kat‘ ice sculpture team promotes Thai art and culture, and hopefully inspires Japanese and other international tourists at the show to visit Thailand. TAT has set a target of 1.75 million visitor arrivals from Japan in 2019 with the hope of reaching two million arrivals by 2020.

“We believe the Pla Kat ice sculpture showcases Thai craftsmanship on an international level, creating a positive image for Thailand.”

News: RitzCoffier recognised with Michelin star in Switzerland

February 7, 2019 by PressEditor

RitzCoffier, a restaurant at the Bürgenstock Hotel & Resort, showcasing a modern interpretation of classic French cuisine under the direction of talented chef Bertrand Charles, has earned its first star from the international Guide Michelin.

The prestigious designation was announced at a gala celebration at the Kultur-und-Kongresszentrum Luzern.

Among the innovative creations on the RitzCoffier menu are Ribelmais Poularde, which is smoked in front of the guest with pine cones and hay from Bürgenberg.

Another unique treat is the Sunrise over the Bürgenstockwald, a raclette variation à la RitzCoffier with smoked duck, black truffle and La Ratte potatoes, served with fir sprouts, moss and pine cones from the adjacent forest.

“This award from Guide Michelin is a great honour and motivation for me as a young Chef de Cuisine to continue my culinary journey without losing sight of the classics of French cuisine,” said Charles.

The Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne is part of the Bürgenstock Selection, based in Zug, Switzerland.

The resort comprises four hotels ranging from three-star to five-star superior, with 383 rooms and suites, a health centre, ten restaurants and bars, 67 Residence Suites, a 10,000 square meter Alpine Spa, and a wide range of leisure activities.

Robert Herr, general manager of the Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, added, “I am very happy for Bertrand Charles and the whole team at Restaurant RitzCoffier to celebrate this achievement, which follows the 16 GaultMillau points RitzCoffier has already earned.

“The cooperation and regular interaction with our culinary mentor, French cooking legend Marc Haeberlin, has produced special fruit.”

Bürgenstock Hotel is considered the World’s Leading New Hotel by World Travel Awards.

Culinary director, Mike Wehrle, observed at the Guide Michelin Ceremony in Lucerne: “At only 31 years old, Bertrand Charles is a master of the classic dishes of Escoffier and reinterprets them without distorting the French origin.

“We are delighted that he can express and develop his talent here.”
