Tourism Authority of Thailand news first on FIR:

Bangkok, 16 November, 2020 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to announce that the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration (SHA) Certification has been awarded to casual-dining and quick-service restaurants operated in Thailand by the Minor Food Group.

Minor Food Group’s brands include The Pizza Company, Swensen’s, Sizzler, Dairy Queen, Burger King, The Coffee Club, Basil, Benihana and Bonchon. Of the total 958 branches of the Group’s outlets that applied, 890 have passed the set criteria and been awarded the SHA certification. They join the already over 6,800 establishments in Thailand which have passed the SHA assessment (as of 15 November, 2020).

The SHA certification is a recognition that an establishment meets the standards of hygiene and health safety for their products and services in accordance with the nationwide measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

TAT Governor, Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, said, “Under the volatile COVID-19 situation, the public and business operators are encouraged to realise the creation of travel experiences that adhere to the ‘new normal’. Adhering to hygiene standards among other things helps to elevate the quality of Thai tourism products and services that in turn builds the confidence of travellers and enhances the positive image of Thailand as a preferred destination.”

The SHA project was established in May 2020 under collaboration between TAT and numerous public and private sector partners, to provide SHA certification to establishments that observe the basic standards of hygiene, health and cleanliness across their entire premises, equipment and toilets, as well as operational staff.

TAT’s partners in this include the Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Board of Trade of Thailand, Federation of Thai Spa and Wellness Association, Thai Retailers Association, Thai Hotels Association, Association of Domestic Travel, Thai Amusement and Leisure Park Association, Thai Restaurant Association, Thai Spa Association, Thai Boats Association and Event Management Association.

The SHA certification is given to 10 types of business. Along with restaurants/food outlets, these are accommodation and convention centres, recreation and tourist attractions, tourist transport vehicles, travel agents/tour operators, health and beauty parlours, department stores and shopping centres, sports stadiums for tourism, theatres/cinemas, and souvenir shops and other stores.
